2020’s New Smartphones Are More Impressive Than Ever

There’s no question that when it’s time to upgrade your smartphone, it’s a good idea to go for the newest models available—especially this year, when they have more new and exciting features than ever. Upgrading is also a great time to try something different. With so much competition in the market, the advancements in new smartphones now come at breakneck speed, and the products are better than ever. But what’s the best smartphone of 2020?

Google Pixel 4

Price: Starting at $499

Features:

  • All the Google amenities we’ve come to love
  • New dual camera
  • Motion Sense hand gestures

While the Pixel 4 starts at $499, the slightly more expensive Pixel 4XL is an interesting choice here, with its better battery life. The 90hz display on both is smooth and fast. The dual camera is a definite upgrade from previous Google phones, and the 16MP telephoto camera makes for a high-quality zoom.

If there’s one big thing that sets the Google Pixel 4 apart, it’s Soli, a radar sensor that’s made its debut with this phone. Soli has two main uses: face unlock and Motion Sense. With Motion Sense, you can use certain gestures to control your phone without touching it—for example, turning off an alarm or skipping a song by waving your hand over the phone. In these germophobic times, any no-touch feature is going to be a hit.

Samsung Galaxy S20

Price: Starting at $1,000

Features:

  • Expandable storage
  • 120HZ display
  • Ultra high-quality features all around

As you can tell by the price, Samsung spared no expense when it came to building the Galaxy S20, and its fancy counterparts, the S20+ and S20 Ultra. From top to bottom, front to back, they selected the highest-quality parts, making this a real powerhouse. Remember how impressive your first smartphone felt? This will bring that feeling back.

We’re talking a high-quality 120hz AMOLED display, a super-powerful battery, and a total of three rear cameras. In fact, the camera on the Ultra model is so powerful, you might as well sell the ol’ DSLR and use the money for the upgrade. Another reason to shell out: Samsung Galaxy phones are built to last. No need to replace this one after a year.

iPhone 11

Price: Starting at $699

Features:

  • Wide and ultra-wide camera lenses
  • A13 Bionic chip
  • Dolby Vision audio

Are you noticing what I’m noticing? Samsung going for top-of-the-line everything and Apple going for affordability? The whole world’s turned upside down! All jokes aside, the iPhone 11 is a great all-around smartphone. There’s not necessarily any new mind-blowing features—just Apple perfecting previous mind-blowing features.

That said, that description does omit the new A13 Bionic chip, Apple’s fastest processor ever. In terms of improvement upon past models, we’ve got better battery life, amazing photo quality and editing capabilities, and Dolby Vision for the audiophiles. Aesthetically, there’s a great color selection and the sleek, desirable design we’ve come to expect from Apple.

OnePlus 8

Price: Starting at $699

Features:

  • Ultra sleek profile
  • OxygenOS software
  • 5G Support

OnePlus is gaining market share in the smartphone economy, and for good reason: they make a great product. They’ve introduced a slew of new smartphones recently, but the 8 series seems to be the real winner. For just a few dollars more than previous models, you’ve got a product that looks and feels much more expensive than it is.

The OnePlus is, quite simply, just a good-looking product. They offer exciting, reactive colorways that change depending on the light, and their sleek profile makes for a satisfying user experience. Its software offers infinite adaptability, and it's got 5G capability.
