These People Are The Absolute Worst

Everyone has a nightmare person story, but these ones really take the cake. They’re co-workers, customers, complete strangers, and in some cases, even those living under our very roof. They cheat, they lie, and they treat people like human garbage. These Redditors didn’t hold back—their anger oozing out of every story.

1. This Lunch Was Floored

I worked in the office part of a warehouse. One of the gals that worked with me was super cool, so we ate lunch together every day. One day she goes to get her lunch from the fridge and someone else’s lunch falls out. The container hits the floor and the lid pops off, spilling out the food. I was floored. What she did next disgusted me.

She scooped the food back in, put the lid on, and slid it back into the fridge. There was so much nasty on that floor, and when I brought it up she shrugged, saying they wouldn’t be upset because they didn’t know. I asked around and figured out who the lunch belonged to, and told him what happened. I gave the guy a little money to go buy something else to eat.

My friend thought I was crazy for caring.

2. She’d Do Anything For A Sale

I used to work in retail sales. A guy used to come in all the time. He was a veteran and clearly suffering from dementia or PTSD and always had a caseworker with him. He would come in and look for gifts for his mom and someone would always try to talk him into signing up for credit. Luckily, his caregiver would look out for him and talk him out of it.

One day he came in and said the program that paid for his case worker was cut, and he only had her two days a week instead of five, but it was Monday and he goes to the mall on Mondays. It was a recipe for disaster. A sales associate not only signed him up for credit, but maxed out his 5k balance knowing full well he didn't have the faculty to pay the bill.

She made her sales goal that year and got a trip to Florida. I reported this to human resources, but nothing happened. I talked to our regional manager, and when she approached the salesperson, she claimed not to know the situation. She did. This guy came in every Monday. We knew. Also, she’s now been a manager and top salesperson for over 20 years. She definitely isn't going anywhere.

3. Get Down And Booger

Many years ago I worked for a major US cell phone company. One day a woman came in to discuss something about her account. She wasn’t unpleasant or anything, but short and to the point; not very conversational. While I’m looking up her information and making some small talk, she does something that makes my jaw DROP.

Just out of nowhere, she jams her finger up her nose, wriggles it around, and pulls out a small booger. She didn’t try to hide it or anything, in full view of everyone in the store. After staring at it for a bit on her finger she goes ahead and wipes it on the counter, then goes back to talking about her account like nothing happened.

I totally stopped what I was doing and just stared at her for a moment wondering if I had really just seen a grown person be that disgusting. I finished up my business with her as soon as possible trying not to retch, and she left. I ran to the back and got some cleaning equipment and sprayed the whole counter around where she was to clean it up and disinfect it.

To this day, I still gag a little when I think about it. She had no shame or self-awareness whatsoever.

4. She Planned A Fake Trip

When I was in high school, my mother didn't want me to date the person I was seeing. So, she planned a fake week-long trip—it was two days—because she knew I would have them over because I'd have the house to myself. Turns out, the day my mother came home was the first day they came over.

I let them in to shower and make dinner while I went to work to do a two-hour inventory job. While I was at work, my mom came home and surprised them sitting on the couch in the living room watching cartoons. Like any person in high school getting caught by parents, they ran for my bedroom window on the other side of the house.

They didn't know my parents had nailed it shut when they told me to stop seeing them. Oh, but that wasn't the craziest part. My mother then locked them in the bedroom and called the authorities. The report states she tried to get them charged with breaking and entering, burglary, and assault. They were taken in.

My significant other was incarcerated for seven whole months and had to take a plea for trespassing. Luckily, it was their first charge, or it could have been worse. This incident ruined a lot of their adult life because of having to constantly get background checks.

Throughout the years of being with them after that, my mother would always complain about how they couldn't get a "good job to support me". Of course, they couldn't get a job and it was my own mother’s fault. We were together for quite a while, got married, and eventually broke up. My mom and I haven't spoken in seven years.

That event happened 12 years ago. It didn't even take the cake on other things she's done. If I ever saw my mother again, I know the first thing she'd say is, "I was right about them, wasn't I?"

5. So, This Isn’t The Ladies' Room?

I once had an amazing job that I really liked a lot. I was working at a bar that was in the same complex of several restaurants and entertainment establishments. Tons of staff members from the other businesses would come drink at my place after their shift regularly, and I had a great rapport with pretty much everyone.

There was a hostess that worked at an upscale bowling alley/lounge across from me. She had been in my bar at least a dozen times, and the layout of my work bar was very basic. It was essentially a giant square with restrooms on one wall. Anyway, this bowling alley girl comes in and starts madly flirting with some of the male servers from a restaurant in the complex.

The guys bought her a bunch of drinks and she was getting inebriated. I ended up cutting her off because I didn't want anything bad to happen to her. A ton of customers came in right after, so I got slammed as I was the only bartender on duty. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the door to our cold storage room open.

There was nobody on duty that would need to go in there, and it's very clearly marked 'Employees Only'. I finish helping a customer and run to open the storage room. There is the bowling alley girl, with her dress hiked up, squatting on something. That's when I made a horrifying realization.

She had removed the six packs from a case of brewskis, folded the cardboard flaps in, and made herself a makeshift toilet. She urinated all over the storage room floor. As I threw her out, she said she was friends with the guy who owned the whole complex and was going to have me fired for being so rude by throwing her out.

I just told her she was banned and to have a great night. I didn't make a big stink about it, but apparently, word got back to her boss and he came by to talk to me about it. He said he gave her the ultimatum that she could come by and apologize to me, or be fired. I never did get an apology from her.

6. Thoughtless Question

There was a horrible woman in my medical terminology class who was known for being mean for no reason. She was also petty and hateful. One day we were talking about the female reproductive system and miscarriages came up, and my teacher mentioned that she had had a miscarriage earlier in life and how devastating it was.

The horrible woman didn’t even raise her hand and just blurted out the most inappropriate question: “What did they do with it?” She was referring to the body of the miscarried baby. “Do they just throw it away?” Every girl in my class, including the teacher, looked at her absolutely appalled.

She didn’t even realize or care how awful her questions were.

7. He Just Laughed At Me

So, I work in a gas station during the summer. One night, when I was about a few weeks into the job. I was manning the front registers because it was quiet that night, and my coworker was in the back restocking the cooler. This guy comes in, looks normal, and everything. He’s carrying a plastic bag, but in my hometown, that's pretty normal.

He stops in the door and just stares at me. I saw something like: “Hello Sir.” This guy is just staring me straight in the eyes with an angry expression. He then says: “You got three minutes to give me everything in the registers!” The guy slides his free hand back like he’s about to pull out a piece.

Now I’m literally about to have a heart attack, I’m trying to go over in my head how to get the register open quickly, and maybe try and hit the silent alarm discreetly. The dude starts laughing his head off and tells me it was a joke. Evidently, my face told him I thought he was being serious.

He goes on to browse through the store, and later he’s up at the register when someone he knows comes in. He starts making fun of how I nearly freaked out from a joke. Right in front of me. I later talked to my dad—who is an ex-officer—about this. He said that trying to rob a store is against the law, and he could’ve been taken in had I actually hit the alarm.

8. This Trash Needed A Can

I was visiting Lake Louise in Banff, Canada, and following one of the popular hiking trails that leads up to another miniature lake sort of lookout point. The park is protected, and the trail was beautiful and very clean and well-kept. I watched in horror as a tourist did the unthinkable.

Right in front of me, he stuffed a bunch of dirty Kleenex into a plastic water bottle and proceeded to shove it into an opening in a tree directly on the path. I couldn't believe it and told him to take his trash out of the tree. His wife didn't understand what my problem was, and said it was "probably someone's job to find trash and clean it up anyway".

They ended up taking it back, but I bet they just tossed it after they got some distance from where I was. Ugh.

9. Sunday, Bloody Sunday

I live in the South. In my twenties, I worked as a waitress at a small restaurant, and my other job was as a cashier at a retail store. Sundays were the worst to have to work. Where I live, we had what was called a Blue Law on Sundays for a long time. This meant that most stores and some restaurants could only be open from Noon to 6 pm. On those days, I used to cringe when the church crowd would come in. Here’s why.

On Sundays, as a waitress, I put up with bossy and impatient customers. These people never left a good tip—ever. As a cashier, it was something different. I was talked down to by rude customers who felt a sense of pride by reminding me Sunday was a holy day, and I should find a “real job” so that I could be off work and go to church.

One time, I finally had enough after being told that three times in one day. The fourth church person to say that, as they included, “If you were a Christian, you would refuse to work on a Sunday,” got this as my response: ”Well sir, if I wasn’t working today, who would sell you what you needed? If Sunday is strictly for worship and family, why are you not in your prayer closet or with your family at home? See, if we all didn’t work on Sunday, who would cook your after-church lunch and sell you toilet paper?"

I went on to say that I’m a Christian. But unlike most of the popular church crowd, I don’t look down on those working Sundays to support themselves, nor do I walk up and boastfully tell people I’m Christian as I would rather display that through showing love and kindness to others. He promptly took his toilet paper and other items and left.

10. This Cashier Is The Worst

There was this kind of simple-looking man who was seemingly from a rural area, trying to buy a few things from a grocery store. But he realized he didn't have enough cash. He searched for his card while the cashier rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue. Now, the guy was obviously embarrassed and anxious because there was this big row of people waiting behind him, so he could've done without her lamentation.

He eventually handed the cashier the credit card which was a sign that he recently got it and didn't really know how they work.  Of course, she just looks at him like he's the stupidest person on earth and tells him to put his card in front of the screen. By now it's clear that he's totally lost as this was not long after the "contactless" paying system was introduced.

The poor guy’s hand was shaking and he did exactly as he was told but nothing happened. There was no beep to confirm that the bill had been paid. The cashier lets out a big sigh like it's the most difficult thing in the world for her to even stand near him and violently pulls the card from his hands to do the job herself.

The thing still doesn't work, and then she realizes that the card doesn't have the contactless option. And she starts this high-pitched scream and shouts, "The card is not a contactless one!!" She then almost throws the card back at him. He proceeds to pick his card up, while the cashier rolls her eyes again and rubs her temples indicating she's having a migraine. When the guy is back up she shouts again, "How can you be so stupid!?"

Thankfully, the lady waiting after him started yelling at the cashier "How can you be so rude!!" And told her to stop and the cashier simply yelled back "Oh my god look at him!" She stopped after because I think she realized she could be reported but still. For her, it was totally normal to shout at a stranger who is older than you and, on top of that, your customer who is simply having some trouble.

I mean, hello? What are they paying you for if not to help customers?

11. This Toddler Rode Like A Prince

I was on a packed bus about a month ago and standing in front of the lady whose child was sitting on the seat next to her. I had no intention of sitting and was perfectly fine standing. The lady was still giving me dirty looks as if daring me to ask for her toddler's seat. After a few minutes, an elderly gentleman boarded the bus and saw no viable seat because all the senior citizen seats were occupied.

Seeing a possible seat with the toddler, he politely asked the lady to let him sit on the toddler’s seat. Never have I seen such an ill-tempered lady lash out at an elderly person like that.

People asked her to move the kid and let the senior citizen sit, but she refused to budge saying that she'll pay for the full ticket. When the conductor came along she told him to give her two full tickets and then asked him if her kid could sit there peacefully now.

The conductor told her that the kid could go for free but the problem was that she refused to cooperate in this simple situation. Other people gave their seat to the old person, and she continued the whole journey arguing with whoever asked for her seat.

12. Jeff Ruined Everything

At my high school, there's a special white tree planted right outside our front door in the Senior Circle. It's been planted as a memory of a junior we lost to cancer a little ways back. Everyone respected that tree just as we respected that junior. It was something that was almost sacred to the school and no one ever messed with it.

So, it was senior year in high school, and—as is tradition—a senior prank was in order. Our class, being who we are, had been planning the most diabolical, most terribly beautiful prank the school had ever seen. Don't take it the wrong way, because we had absolutely no intention of hurting anyone, or doing any wrong. All in good fun, as they say.

In the past years, the senior pranks had, quite frankly, sucked: big time. These past pranks were unoriginal, boring, and complacent pranks that everyone forgot about the very next day. So, we had to make this prank last for years in the students' memories. Looking back, I guess it did—but for all the wrong reasons. Let me explain.

There's a group of seniors who love to just get inebriated on nights and go wild. They've hosted many parties, and went to all the others. They thought they ruled the world, I guess. There was one in particular—I’ll call him Jeff—who was sort of the worst of the worst of this group. He was about to ruin our senior prank in a big way.

So, our idea for a prank was pretty good, I’m not going to lie. We were going to sneak a bouncy castle inside the school, and put a myriad of balloons in every hallway. It was going to be incredibly amazing to look at and super surprising. But nobody remembers the castle and the balloons, because Jeff had his own stupid plans.

Jeff showed up to the night when we all went and set the prank up, but he didn't help at all. In fact, I don't remember seeing him after he showed up. The next day was supposed to be glorious. Freshmen were supposed to be in the bouncy castle, sophomores were supposed to be throwing balloons, and juniors were supposed to be grumbling about AP courses. Most importantly, though, seniors were supposed to be gloating. That’s how it was supposed to be.

None of that happened. No, we all stood outside in shock and horror because of Jeff. He had cut down that special white tree—the one in memory of the lost junior. And while Jeff and his buddies pranced around like last night was incredible, we all stood there and just couldn't believe what we were seeing. Jeff, that was so not cool.

13. He Wouldn’t Leave

We rented a room in our three-bedroom house when my kids were one and two to a buddy of my husband’s because he was working on getting into subsidized housing. He apparently thought his $200 a month included food and a maid service.

He refused to wash his own dishes or clean his bathroom. Anytime I made a family meal, or even just lunch for my kids, he expected a portion of it. He would drink an urn of coffee by himself or an entire pitcher of tea. That gallon of milk? Yeah, that's for my kids!

It got really annoying when my husband would get up and make coffee for him. By the time I got the kids fed and satisfied, there was nothing left for me. Also, one night he got home super late and left the door to the house wide open. It got really cold in the house because the heater had to heat the entire house.

I had to reset the breaker and get the pilot to relight at 2 am while piling blankets on my kids until the heater was working again. This went on for a couple of months. We repeatedly explained that he needed to get his own food and needed to clean up. We said that he needed to find a new place to go, because he was costing us more than if he hadn't been there.

He was on a month-to-month anyway. He had an infuriating excuse. He believed that the two days a month he spent at his baby mama's should make up for what we were out. Every time we'd talk to him about the food or cleaning issue, he would have his mom or baby mama bring him food and clean up a bit, but a few days later he would be back to how it was.

Before the second month started, we sat down and went over it again and he said fine, he got it, then started to eat and drink our stuff when we were gone or we were in our room and the kids were napping. I told my husband and that's when he was like, you can finish out this month but need to find other arrangements.

A few days later, the door incident happened and he had no remorse. Once again, he waited for us to be distracted and snuck food. My husband got on him again and he flipped out and said the thing about being gone one weekend a month, packed his stuff, and was gone in a couple of hours.

About a year ago, he sent me a message and apologized. Said he knew he was being awful and basically taking out his frustrations with his baby mama, his family, and his financial situation on us.

14. He Proved Her Wrong

My mom had me when she was 18, which is pretty young, I know. One day when she was shopping for maternity clothes, a woman came up to her—a complete stranger—and started asking innocent questions like: "Is it a boy or girl?" "When is it due?" My mom was probably answering politely, until the question took a turn for the worse.

This woman finally started showing her true colors and asked my mom what her age was. She started blasting my mom with advice like: “you need to give that baby up” and “you're too young to know how to be a mother". She continued to scare my poor mom saying that the baby will be prone to health issues, and other stuff to make my mom seem like an enemy to me.

She even started talking about giving me up for adoption. Now let’s fast forward 22 years later. I'm healthy, living comfortably, and I’ve got a great job. I’m really close with my siblings and parents, who just spent their anniversary of 22 years together. I don't know how my mom and dad did it but, wow am I incredibly lucky.

15. Bathroom Scolding

My very first job was wrangling carts at Walmart. One time after using the bathroom, I was washing my hands. A guy in a suit washed his hands next to me very quickly, then, while drying his hands asked me, "Are you paid hourly?" I was taken a bit off guard but managed, "Uh, yeah?" He smirked, said, "I can tell," and left.

As far as I could gather, the guy thought I was lazy because I was washing my hands too well. Looking back, the fact that he thought he was so smart guessing that a Walmart employee wasn't salaried makes me laugh.

16. She Targeted The Elderly

The worst people are the ones that treat the elderly in nursing homes badly. I work at a nursing home, and while I have a lot of awesome coworkers who are very good at their job, I also have a lot of trashy ones. To give an example: I once overheard one of the patients say to a coworker that she really needed to go to the toilet. My co-workers' response horrified me.

This lady was in a wheelchair and needed help. My coworker said: Well, you’re wearing a diaper aren’t you? Those can hold up to eight liters (nine qts). Just pee already!" I was shocked. My coworker went to have her smoke, and I immediately helped the lady in the wheelchair.

Yes, she did wear adult diapers, but a lot of my coworkers don’t seem to understand that these kinds of pants are to prevent accidents, not to encourage incontinence. The sad thing is, these kinds of things are very hard to prove, especially when the patients have dementia like they do in the nursing home I work at.

I have had multiple conversations with the manager about this kind of thing, resulting in absolutely nothing being done about it. I think the shortage in staff doesn’t help with this problem.

17. Excuse Me…Waitress?

I was once at dinner with my significant other for her mom's birthday. Some family friends also came along, who were not related to either of us. The husband of the couple who was not related—who I will call Carl—ate his entire plate of food. All except for about a quarter of his steak. He then made a big deal about calling for the waitress and told her there was a hair in his food.

Carl then went on to say he lost his appetite and didn't want anything else. The waitress had no choice but to strike his meal from the bill since she couldn't get him anything else. My significant other’s cousin later explained that almost every time she is at dinner with this couple, Carl or his wife will eat most of their dish before complaining and trying to get it for free.

18. She Learned Her Lesson Late

When I was in high school, I took classes at my local community college, and in that class, we had our final speeches. Someone did a very stupid and quite obvious speech on litter, and at the end, people were giving feedback. This 40-something back-to-school mother said something that made the whole class just go super quiet.

She said something along the lines of: "Wow, I had no idea that there was anything wrong, I'm so used to throwing cups out the car window, but I won't do that anymore!" She was not an awful person, but in this day and age, how did you not know that straight-up littering is wrong?

19. This Sweater Was Disgusting

One time, I was in the sauna at my gym. This other guy was in there for a few minutes before he wrung out his sweat towel over the hot coals. I was so disgusted I didn’t know how to respond. All I could get out was, “Hey, don’t do that”. The guy looked genuinely confused that he did anything wrong. I didn’t have the energy to explain, so I just left the sauna.

20. Coach Was A Meanie

I once had a teacher who was also a successful coach. He was a laid-back dude, and everyone thought he was funny and cool. In reality, however, he was actually very mean person. He used to use students' real names in test questions, like "Bob is pushing a car up a ramp at x mph..." basic word problem, which was fine except for one thing.

This teacher would purposefully use the names of some of the less popular kids, making them the continual butt of jokes. Everyone laughed, and everyone went along with it, but in retrospect, not only was he a mediocre teacher, he was a genuinely not nice person.

It wasn’t anything terribly scandalous, just a bunch of passive-aggressive attacks on people who could least afford it at a time when they were particularly vulnerable.

21. No Vest For These Mutts

One of the worst things people can do is get fake service animal vests for their dogs. Service dogs are a serious, very meticulously trained animal, and not just an excuse to bring your pet everywhere. It’s easy to distinguish a regular dog from a service one.

Service dogs go through two years of training to desensitize the dog from distractions before they can be given to people in need. That super affectionate puppy is clearly not a real service animal. And you know what? Walking their non-service dogs without a leash is another problem.

The leash is for the dog’s protection, and the protection of others. I don’t care how, “well behaved he is normally,” your dog is biting my leg, or, your perfectly sweet and friendly dog just got mauled by a less well-adjusted dog that is on its leash specifically to prevent that. It’s super irresponsible.

22. Professor, Why?

I’m an adjunct professor, and I can’t stand it when other professors make fun of their students around each other. And I don’t necessarily mean complaining about a student that’s being a pain in the butt—though that might not be the healthiest thing either. It mostly just bugs me when instructors make fun of their students’ work.

I teach English/Creative Writing and usually, it’s clear that the student was probably trying their best: which they usually are, in my experience. I mean, yes, some of the students have never written a story before, and the results can be a little bit funny, but they’re learning, and writing is a very personal thing for a lot of people and it doesn’t seem cool to make fun of them.

I guess some professors think it doesn’t matter because they’re not saying it to the student’s face, and bad writing can be really funny, I get it—but these are your students. They’re coming to you for help. It’s like if your doctor made fun of you for being fat behind your back. I don’t know, it just seems like a terrible thing to do.

I just want to add, not all professors do this. Most professors don’t make fun of their students’ work—a sizable minority do. Please don’t feel like all your college professors are talking badly about you behind your back. I know many more teachers who brag about their students and are very proud of them. This is far more common.

Usually, what you see is what you get. If your teacher seems like a nice person who likes you and wants you to succeed, they probably are. If not...well.

23. He Was Full-On Psycho

My sister and I had been doing karate at a dojo for a few years when we joined a new one. I was 11 years old at the time and I made a new friend at the new dojo. The karate school was big, so they held annual competitions. My new friend, Kevin, and I ended up matriculating to the top of our age division for sparring and first place would be decided by our match.

Before my sister and I came along, Kevin and his sister were like the shining stars of the place if that makes sense. They were both super competitive and won lots of awards. My sister and I weren't into competitions and were really only competitive with each other. We participated in this one only because we were new.

Anyways, it was three rounds and I overwhelmed my friend in the first round. He always started with the same move so it was easy to overtake him. I remember looking at the crowd and seeing his dad.  He was red-faced and screaming at his son: full-on psycho. The look on my friend's face was so angry too, but completely directed at himself.

My parents are the kind to love me and be proud of me no matter what I do and only care that I try. I knew everything would be okay if I lost, but I just got a really bad feeling for what would happen if he lost. I let him win. Never told anybody about this.

That was the first time I had ever seen an adult like that, and even back then I knew things were messed up.

24. She Slept While I Worked

I used to work in IT for the city. Our department was a mix of contractors like myself and union city workers. On the overnight shift, we all would sleep, but if there was work to do, we’d all pitch in to get it done. Well, everyone except for L. See, L’s answer for everything was “That’s a contractor's job, not mine.” Everything.

We were doing a system upgrade at the time, so that meant that all new computers needed to be imaged. It was an easy job, just start the computer, insert the disk, hit “Yes,” and then go back to sleep for a while. We had 200-300 workstations, and were averaging 10-12 a night, or should I say I was averaging 10-12 a night.

It finally got to the point where our supervisor wanted more than 12. I answered fine, just get L to help. He asked her, she said no, so he said it was up to me. He really didn’t care for my answer. “Look, I’ve been doing all the work here. She gets paid TRIPLE to do the same job, yet she sleeps the entire shift. If she won’t do any, then neither will I.” I quit a couple of days later.

25. She Can March Right Out Of Here

One of my classmates is the worst person ever. She is the definition of a terrible person. She talks horribly about our other classmates, her friends, and people in general: whether they are present or not. She also talks back to the teachers and insults them right to their faces.

But when it comes to trying to put down another classmate, she is willing to act as if nothing happened, so that she can have the teachers on her side and act like the victim. Besides all of that, she is now the school's president and leader of the marching band. For this reason, she thinks she is superior to everyone else and therefore has the right to talk however she wants to them.

26. She Just Wanted Attention

I had a friend since childhood and, as an adult, she was really into the club scene for a while. It got pretty bad, and at one point her family and extended relatives were tired of bailing her out all the time. If that wasn’t bad enough, she found out she was pregnant. It didn’t stop her, and she kept doing her thing anyway. She made no attempt to really sober up.

Sure enough, she delivered and posted pictures of her and the baby on social media. I was surprised there hadn’t been any complications with the pregnancy because of her lifestyle. Then I found out the truth. The baby lived only four hours or so. People grieve in different ways, but she was almost attention-seeking when she was a big contributing factor to her daughter's short life.

27. He Got Teed Off

I was 17 at the time and had been working at the local country club as a “cart boy.” Basically, my job was to get golf clubs out of the members’ trunk as they pulled up, put them on a cart, clean them off, and make sure that the members had everything that they needed to have a good round of golf: except the talent—that was on them.

In addition to that, I had to make sure that the driving range had enough balls, that the range was picked every now and then, and also clean and refuel golf carts when they came back. Honestly, it was a great job. $12/hour plus generous tips from the members. The tips were always split evenly among everyone who was working that shift.

On super busy days, we’d have three cart boys/girls working. On less busy days, one was generally enough. This particular summer, the golf pro decided that the cart staff needed a manager. Rather than promote one of us, who had been working there for several summers, they hired someone from the outside.

We felt slighted, but whatever. $12/hour plus generous tips was good money for a high school kid in 2003. Steve was the manager’s name. One Easter Sunday, when Steve was still new and still figuring out how we did everything, it was me and Steve working all on our own.

The place was BUSY but couldn’t get a third person to come in and help out because everyone was out of town for Easter with their families. Because of this, we worked from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, so the entire day was “the shift". Steve spent literally every second of the day inside the pro shop, talking with the assistant golf pros: who, as it turned out, were both lesbians and were secretly a couple!

Steve washed no carts, got no bags, picked up zero balls. He left me outside to try to work one of the busiest days of the year all by myself. As a point of reference—the three bins on the driving range, which held roughly 10,000 balls each, were all completely empty, but I couldn’t get out there to pick the golf balls because I had to stay “up top” where the members were pulling in.

Toward the end of the day, when we had maybe five carts left to send out, Steve came outside (the pro shop had closed at that point) and helped with those few, enabling me to go to the range so I could get started on picking the balls. By this time, it was getting dark enough that I had to drive around with a flashlight and my head sticking out of the cage on the cart just to see where I was going so I wouldn’t run over the pins.

I finished that, brought all the balls back to the cart barn to wash and take back to the range. There were roughly 100 carts lined up to be washed as well. Now, throughout the day, I was tipped VERY well. Being that it was my third summer there, the members all knew me very well and I always took EXCELLENT care of them.

I’d played golf at one point or another with almost all of them. They saw me working by myself, still making sure that everyone was taken care of just as well as if there had been three people out there, and they took care of me. I think I had something like $800 in tips from the day.

Steve came down as I was washing the balls, told me to clock out when I was done, and that he was going home. He then turned around and said, “Oh yeah, we have to split tips. I’ve got $7, how much do you have?” I told him he could just keep the $7 and that I wouldn’t be splitting with him.

After some arguing, he left. I woke up to a voicemail from the golf pro asking why I’d refused to split tips with Steve the night before and why I clocked out so close to midnight. I told him everything. Steve, unfortunately, wasn’t fired and harbored a grudge against me the rest of the summer, giving me the worst shifts that made no tips.

These were Monday morning women’s leagues—ugh! On the bright side, my boss did say I could keep the tips, though!

28. She Just Needed A Snack

A friend called me and said she really needed to talk to me and asked if I could go get ice cream. I thought she had a bad day or something and just really needed a friend. Nope. She told me she was uncomfortable with me becoming friends with one of her friends and that we can only hang out if she’s around.

She put all the blame on the other girl and said she should have known better and it was really not okay of her to reach out to me, blah, blah, blah. I’m sure she had the same conversation with the other girl and put the blame on me. Needless to say, we aren’t friends anymore. And by the way, what was the ice cream for?

29. Accidents Happen

I am a 24-year-old female who has to do hemodialysis. This is the way it works. I go three times a week to the hospital for four-hour sessions. We are divided into rooms of four patients each. For a long while, I was in a room with two young-ish patients. The woman was maybe 50 and the man was in his 60s. The fourth bed was rotating through with other older people who were in their eighties.

Well, sometimes it would happen that the older patients had...er…accidents of the smelly sort. It’s unpleasant for everyone because they need to get changed in the room, true. But my roommates would always make awful commentary when this happened and sure, a lot of older people are hard of hearing, but not all of them and even if they are, it was so incredibly disrespectful.

You’d think they’d realize that it could be them in a few years, or even now because that can sadly happen to anyone at any time. But nope, they just made terrible jokes and laughed like teenagers at some sick older person’s expense. It made me so angry.

30. Oh Deer

On Miyajima island in Japan, the deer are used to people feeding them by hand. My tour guide said to keep brochures away, though, as these deer will eat anything. This Italian couple, however, ignored him and proceeded to rip pieces of paper to feed the deer.

Someone came in and pushed his hand out of the way, saying “They are animals, not toys!” One of the Italians stared at her walking away, and with a smug grin ripped another piece off and fed it to the deer.

31. He Downsized The Tip

I was eating dinner with a friend and we agreed to split the bill evenly, including the tip. My friend proceeded to reduce the amount he had paid on his part of the check to take the total tip down to around 5% of the bill. This was a family affair with his wife and kids and mine, so the total check was over $125 before tip and tax.

The food and service was positively excellent, with zero complaints from anyone in the party that I heard. He looked at how much tip I left, waited for me to start to leave, then grabbed back his entire tip amount, in addition to part of what his family's food cost, to leave the server with approximately a 5% tip on amazing service.

I left, went to an ATM, drove back to the restaurant, went back inside and found our server, and gave her enough tip to put her back up to 25% of the check. We haven't gone out to eat with them since, unless it's at a place that doesn't require tipping the servers.

32. He Was All Buddy Buddy At First

I'm pretty sure this guy at work just gets bored with his day-to-day rut and messes with people. It doesn’t matter how: Their jobs, their families, their careers, anything is up for grabs. He just sees what he can get away with. He's tried to get me fired twice. He was all buddy-buddy when I left for unpaid leave. But when I returned, my boss called me in for a talk.

He said I had to move cubes because this guy didn't feel safe with me sitting behind him. Then I started hearing all the stuff he'd been saying about me, and I thought he was probably wise to fear: not that I'd do anything, but he knows it was a heartless thing to do.

Most recently, he's tried to get me fired for violating ethics that I could, fortunately, prove he was incorrect about. He's also spread lies and played people against each other while he watched from the sidelines. I'm pretty sure he talked one of our leads into going to HR about a director for no reason.

I get he had a hard upbringing, but so did I and it doesn't make me want to mess with innocent people to get my kicks.

33. Tired Of Tardiness

People who are always late are the worst. And it’s usually consistent, all the time for everything. I had a friend who was an absolute fool for this. It didn’t matter what it was, she was at a minimum 15 minutes late. Whether it was work, meeting with friends, weddings, etc...she was late for it all.

She always had an excuse: traffic, emergency phone calls, or blaming somebody else for making her late. If we called her out on it, she would call us “the time patrol” and berate us for being so pissy about having to wait an extra half hour for her. It got to a point if we were meeting for dinner and she wasn’t on time, we would give a 15-minute grace period and then order.

More than once she got there as we were halfway through our meals. She still never got the point. The kicker was if you made her wait, it was a really hot button for her. This was not the only reason I stopped hanging out with her but that was a large part of it. She is an extreme case, but I know other people that just can’t show up on time.

I work with a couple and we’re always covering for them and they have no appreciation for it!

34. He Thought It Was A Drive-Thru

I was on my way to work one evening and traffic was super bad. I live like 10 blocks and an overpass away from where I work, and with traffic, it normally takes around 15 minutes to get there. I ended up spending half an hour sitting through lights until I came to the source of the issue.

A car stopped in the middle of the lane I was in. Five or so minutes go by that I'm trapped behind this vehicle when the driver walks up holding a waffle house bag. The dude gets in and just drives off. He stopped traffic to get waffle house and didn't even have the decency to pull over.

35. She Was Bored In Six Hours

A friend of mine invited herself to visit me where I live in Arizona and bought a ticket to fly out even though I told her I was pregnant, not feeling well, and not going to be able to bar hop with her like we did in the college days. Even though I took her off-roading, on a sightseeing tour to Mexico, and out to eat multiple times, she complained of being bored in less than six hours.

This girl spent her time calling her boyfriend constantly. She talked about how my incredibly patient and self-sacrificing husband wasn't doing enough for me. She then started an argument between me and my husband. Next she had a demand: pay for her early ticket home because she didn't realize that it would be so boring.

She also said that she felt "unsafe" in our home because we had an argument behind our closed bedroom door. Yes, we raised our voices but that was it. Besides, it was her that started our argument in the first place.

36. It Was Locked Up Tight

In college, I lived in a Jack-and-Jill dorm, which meant two bedrooms that share a connected bathroom with two girls in each room. My roommate and I, both guys, kept being locked out of the shared bathroom twice a day.  The first time was between 7: 30am to 9:00 am—when we wanted to get ready for class. The other time was from 8:30 pm to 11 pm. This was, needless to say, a real pain.

There were several times when we had to find a Resident Advisor to go into the other room to unlock the bathroom door for us, multiple times at 2 am at night. They had their families over all the time, and their mother cleaned the whole bathroom, which was nice except she kept moving my stuff and my roommate's stuff all over the place.

Every time we brought up the issue of the door being locked their responses were "But it's our right to privacy" and "You’re only saying that because we are Black." I was so glad that they got kicked out, but after they were, we had to find the RA to unlock the bathroom door again. As a farewell, they locked it before they left.

37. Reformed Worst Person

I used to be the worst person ever. Man, I felt like someone else was in my body back then. I used to be a womanizer in college. I cheated on a bunch of women and really scarred some of them for life. I became a lawyer and lied my way to the top. Then one day that all changed.

I got really sick, and the doctor said I had little chance to live. So, instead of staying on the treatment, I used all my saved money and traveled abroad to India, France, Mongolia, Alaska, and Brazil. Anyway—long story short—I got better after all. So, I quit my job as a no-good lying lawyer and opened my own restaurant.

I became the nicest guy around. Nothing changes your thoughts on life more than knowing you have limited time on this planet.

38. Hold On Romeo

My friend cheated on his girlfriend and mother of his four children for three years with her best friend and thought it was perfectly acceptable for this reason: He thought his girlfriend should have known because he is so desirable. He also blamed it on the fact that he and his girlfriend spend a lot of time with the best friend, so—in his eyes anyway—it was bound to happen.

Uh…hold up a minute Romeo, I have plenty of dude friends that I spend a lot of time with—I'm a female—and have for my entire life. We are all faithful to our partners. Also, when I called the woman's "friend" out for being so shady it was "can you blame him for wanting me?" Yes, I can blame you both, because you're nasty.

Additionally, he thinks that it worked out for the better because now he can bang them both openly and not feel guilty for it. In fact, they compete for his attention. This is how people behave and think when there are no repercussions for their behavior.

39. She Was Barking In English

When I was arriving in Positano, Italy I watched a tourist—she looked Jersey/Staten Island—start barking orders in English at a porter serviceman. She was demanding that her bags be brought to her hotel. You are supposed to request these services in advance, but they are fair people and try to accommodate you nonetheless.

It just bugged me that she just started screaming at the guy in English when he did nothing wrong, and she was asking for a big favor. At least start by saying “ciao” or “buon giorno” and treat the person like a human in his own country. Tourists were so horrible on the Amalfi Coast, it really upset me.

40. Ripe For Ridicule

I work at a grocery store and this old dude came up to me all angry and asked me, do you have any avocados I could eat this century?! Apparently, he was above letting them ripen at home like most people do. I explained to him that we can't control how they're sent to us, but he continued to be awful about it.

I wasn't having any of it. He was angry, but I wasn't fazed by his rudeness. As he was walking away he said, you're an employee, smile at your customers. I responded by telling him I don't smile at rude people. Seriously, what is the point in complaining about something you know the other person has no control over.

41. She Didn’t Improve

There was this girl I worked with a few years ago. She would frequently call things she didn’t like “gay”. Being that we worked in a makeup store with several people who are LGBTQ, someone complained and she was spoken to by management. A few days later, she’s telling me a story at the lunch table, and punctuates it with “...and it was so gay!”

I give her a look and she says “Whoops! I mean...it was so retarded!” It was not an improvement.

42. Done With Religion

It is not acceptable for overzealous Christians to act like theirs is the national religion, and to try to force their beliefs on everyone else. If it is your religion, that's great, I have no problem with it. Not respecting other people's beliefs in return, however, is a selfish and repulsive way to behave.

It is especially not acceptable when they only live by their "beliefs" on Sundays, and are nasty and immoral the other six days of the week, while telling everyone else how they should live.

43. Privacy Not So Private

I hate how some parents don’t respect the privacy of their disabled children via blogs, photos, or videos and claim it's okay because their kids don't know any different. This doesn’t excuse them from sharing things they would never share about an able-bodied neurotypical child.

These kinds of parents exploit their kids because they resent them for being disabled or autistic or “Not The Child They Think They Deserve”, and it shows.

44. Out Darn Spot

I was working as a bagger in a grocery store. I was bagging a customer's groceries like any other day. When I bagged some raw meat, I noticed my hand was sticky. Looking at it, I had what looked like blood on my hand. Thinking it was the raw meat and the packaging had a cut, I checked it to see if we should get the customer a different package.

The customer saw me doing this and smiled. He then informed me that the package was not damaged. The blood was, in fact, his. He showed me his hand with a giant open cut on it. After discovering the horror, the cashier and I realized the blood was everywhere, and his wound was still leaking blood onto the ground. The customer laughed the entire time.

45. It’s Not Always Better Face To Face

My girlfriend was in Canada for a student exchange and we had a plan to get together for Valentine's Day. I flew 6,500 km (4000 mi) to see her, and I was really excited when I got there. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening. One of the first things she told me was that she had cheated on me.

She also said that she thought it would be better if we broke up. At first, I was stunned and very upset. But then I had a question for her. I asked her why she didn’t just call me, so I didn’t have to get on the plane and fly all that way. Her response infuriated me.

She said: “I thought it would be better to your face.” She genuinely could not see what was wrong with what she did.

46. They Wanted A Life Of Leisure

We had neighbors who intended to turn their eight-year-old into an NHL player, whether he liked it or not. The truth was, he did not like it. He didn't excel in any way at the sport. His parents forced him, from age eight to 18, to attend hockey camps and play in every league he could.

They spent tens of thousands of dollars per year traveling to different games all over the country to make him play. His parents were intensely convinced he would become a super-rich NHL player and they, the parents, would be set for life. They always went on about how they would live a life of leisure off their kid's career.

Well, at age 18, as an adult, his repressed anger and resentment reared its ugly head. He ended up having a substance problem, and getting taken in by authorities. He even made international news in one ridiculous event that only embarrassed himself and harmed no one. He never had the slightest chance at the NHL.

In fact, he's still mentally messed up and he's nearly 30. We tried—me and my family—to have some positive impact when he was around our son. We told him he had value, that we loved him, and that the NHL was a dream he didn't have to share with his parents. But you can only have so much impact as an outsider. And what we tried to help with ultimately failed. I feel so sorry for that young man.

47. She Was Chuck E “Cheesie”

I was at Chuck E Cheese one day with my son who is quadriplegic. My son is dependent on a tracheostomy ventilator. This means he can’t move from his shoulders down, and he has a ventilator to breathe every breath for him, every day of his life. In addition to this, he can’t cough or clear his throat because his diaphragm doesn’t work due to his injury.

Anyways, at Chuck E Cheese, he needed a trach suction, so I stopped playing the game we were playing together and gave him my full attention. Once he was good and happy again, I turned back to the game. I immediately saw some mom walking away with the tickets we had previously won.

Like she walked up behind me, grabbed the nine tickets the game had fed out, and took them while I was caring for my son. Isn’t that the worst person ever?

48. She Felt Rejected

During my last year of high school I was sending out applications to all the colleges I thought I’d like to go to. I was surprised that I wasn’t getting any responses from the colleges. I mean I thought my applications were good. One day, I came home right after the mail had been delivered and saw an acceptance from one college.

The college was an hour and a half away and wasn't my first choice but I jumped on it because I didn’t want to stay home. I was genuinely depressed because I thought I’d somehow messed up my applications and the other schools couldn’t even be bothered with me. It wasn’t until later that I found out the truth—and it shook me to my core.

As it turned out, my mom was hiding my college acceptance letters, including my first choice. And why? So I would stay nearby. My mom was really aiming to have me stay home. It wasn’t until last year I found a stack of acceptance letters, including one that offered me a full ride for their theater program in NYC. It broke my heart.
