At least on her mother’s side, Dandridge came from a showbiz, performer family. Dandridge was born on November 9, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio. Her mother was the singer Ruby Dandridge, who trained the young Dorothy and her sister Vivian to perform as “The Wonder Children.”
