There are so many horror stories out there on the most awful first dates with terrible partners. Rarely do people share the best dates they have ever been on...except for these people!
Whether their partners said just the right thing or gave that spark of love, these date stories will leave you with a heaping dose of the warm and fuzzies.
1. A Good Memory
For our third outing, we had a cozy movie night at his house. He had paid attention and noted that during our first dinner out, I'd chosen a Dr Pepper to drink and a chocolate chip cookie for my sweet treat. So, this time around, he made a surprising gesture—he'd thoughtfully stocked his fridge with Dr Pepper and even attempted to bake homemade chocolate chip cookies for me.
Despite the cookies turning out a little too crispy, I still ended up marrying him two years down the line.
2. Looking My Worst
I was all set to meet this guy I've had a crush on for a while, but got super sick out of the blue and landed myself in the hospital. The night before, I dropped him a message to cancel our date and explained my situation. His instant reply surprised me, he was like "of course, I'll come and see you". I was in hospital, not looking my A-game, must have been the worst I've ever been physically in ages.
When he showed up, he had a book named "100 unbelievable facts" in hand. He guessed that giving books might cheer up folks stuck in the hospital and that's all he could quickly get. Little did he know what was in store for him.
Immediately, the hospital staff jumped on him, quizzing if he was my boyfriend, then he endured a long, overly detailed lecture about the medical condition I'm dealing with.
Through this whirlwind experience, his only reaction was to tell me that I looked beautiful and that he was glad he didn't miss out on spending time with me. Long story short, I ended up marrying him.
3. An Anonymous Endorsement
It was my first ever date with the woman who's now my wife. We planned to dine at a fancy Italian eatery. I got there a bit early, all suited up and looking my best, and ordered a couple of drinks while waiting for her. Fast forward a bit, she arrives and we both relish a sumptuous meal with drinks and dessert included—the whole shebang!
Now here comes the plot twist. When the time comes to settle the bill, our waitress strolls over and essentially makes our jaws hit the floor. She let us know, "Some anonymous benefactor just covered your bill and they want you to keep enjoying your evening." We were completely taken aback.
I mean, I didn't do the math but I knew for sure, that was not a cheap meal we just enjoyed. Nonetheless, I left a generous tip, thinking to myself, the good samaritan probably spotted our budding romance and decided to give us a sweet surprise.
That moment made us feel really special and was so impactful that we eventually did the same for another young couple a few years later.
4. Helping Feelings
About two weeks into our relationship, my special someone met one of my friends for the first time. We were having fun until my mood was ruined—an ex-lover sent me a heart-wrenching message that brought me to tears that night.
The outlook of this message was that he no longer needed me. It was hurtful to read how interchangeable I was to him and that setting him up with someone else only emphasized how easily he'd moved on—rendering me a mere memory of the past, with no significance.
Yet this new guy in my life, who barely knew me at this point, sat me down and wrapped me up in blankets. He insisted that I wouldn't host or entertain anyone until I was feeling better. He made a valiant attempt to cheer me up by making hot cocoa but couldn't figure out the Keurig, so I ended up laugh-crying as I showed him how to use it.
Upon seeing this, my friend told him that was the kindest thing anyone had ever done for me. He was genuinely taken aback: "Is this not the bare minimum one should do? What are you talking about?" he said.
Fast forward eight years, and now we're engaged.
5. Out Of My Shell
I noticed that during our date, I was unexpectedly chatting about myself a lot, an anomaly for a typically quiet and reserved guy like me when I meet someone new. My reticence has admittedly made dating pretty tricky in the past.
However, this man had a distinct knack for posing questions, stimulating conversation, and drawing out my views and perspectives—it was a two-way street, as he also chimed in with his own ideas!
Once our rendezvous wrapped up, it hit me—I had been chattering away for most of the time, a decidedly unusual occurrence for my inaugural dates. I experienced no fear of his judgments or reservations about my responses.
He projected authenticity in each query and conveyed genuine interest in my responses. The worry of devising the "right" thing to say simply evaporated, replaced by my thoughts flowing naturally. He was there with me, wherever the conversation led. It might seem corny, but there was something truly enchanting about it. We continue to hang out!
6. Kindness Rules
The moment I realized I would spend my life with this man arose during a trip to the grocery store. It was nearing 9 pm, and we'd both just received our paycheck. In front of us, there was a young woman in line with an infant. She was making her payment through food stamps and coupons. Her total was more or less $22, but all she had was a $20 bill.
With a disheartened look, she put back what served as her only indulgence—a candy bar and an energy drink. Her remaining items were nothing more than basics—baby food, diapers, chicken, rice, bananas, baby formula, and wipes. I was about to ask my then-boyfriend for my purse, but there was no need.
Without hesitation, he already had his wallet out. He pulled out a $50 bill and handed it to her, insisting she could keep the change. In that instant, he didn't only contribute to changing her week—he also transformed my life. This was the moment I understood he was my person.
7. Closing The Distance
I dated a girl long-distance for a short period of time. I was based in Sardegna, and she was in Liguria. We went to great lengths just to meet up for dates – taking ferries, enduring long train rides, and sometimes even booking short flights. It was quite the ordeal, but we were determined to give it a go.
My ship often docked in Toulon, France and Naples, Italy, and we attempted to see each other, even if just for a brief time. During our 4th or 5th rendezvous, my ship was headed to Livorno, so we figured we could meet in Pisa. Everything seemed set and feasible until immediately before I left, I began to feel lousy.
I assumed I'd feel better in no time, but that wasn't the case. The train journey was unbearable—I was feverish, shivering, and thoroughly unwell. All I recall is arriving in Pisa and seeing her waiting for my train. The moment I stepped off, I collapsed in her arms—totally unconscious.
When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a hotel room with her offering me tea. She had managed to hail a taxi and, with the driver's help, they lugged me to the nearby hotel. She rented a room and put me to bed, sitting vigil throughout the night.
I have no recollection of these events. My memory starts with me waking up in that hotel room with her giving me tea. As she noticed me starting to wake, she had even prepared a cup of tea for me. I remember thinking: Wow, I need to tie the knot with this woman. So, I did. Bizarrely enough, that was the last time she ever brewed tea for me.
8. Meeting The Family
Our first date started out with us having a couple of beers at the park. From the very beginning, everything felt so effortless.
We carried on such an easy banter, sharing lots of laughter. It was more like catching up with a longtime friend than a first-time meet. As the night fell, she invited me over to get acquainted with her feline friend at her apartment. I thought nothing of it—but it ended up marking the start of our incredible journey together.
Unplanned, we found ourselves hanging out again the following day. And the day after that. Barely two weeks into dating, she was already mingling at my family's BBQ. My clan absolutely adored her.
That effortless and relaxing atmosphere we had from the start has remained. The cat she introduced to me, now our shared furry friend, routinely demands that I serve its dinner with a vocal reminder.
9. The Same Pet Peeve
It might seem "fussy," but I utterly despise hearing people chew their food. It's a peculiar quirk I have. Imagine being at a movie theatre, and there’s an individual behind me having a feast on their large bucket of popcorn. It's almost too much to bear. I know, I know, I’m finicky.
I recall going on numerous dates where we’d settle in, only for someone behind us to appear with an enormous tub of popcorn, munching and loudly sipping their gigantic drinks. I would hesitantly ask my date if perhaps we could shift seats.
The reactions were diverse, ranging from "What for?" to "Sure, you may move, I'm staying put," until I just quit asking and quietly endured. However, on one date with this particular man, we noticed a popcorn lover with a bucket sliding into the seat directly behind us and munching away, notably loud.
Feeling awkward, I carefully glance at my date, only to find him staring back at me with a similar expression. Without uttering a word, we both stood up and relocated.
We have been happily married for 44 years now. We still manage to make each other laugh, and we still spend hours engaged in long conversations. We recently returned from a trip to Paris where our days consisted of leisurely strolls, finding cafes to chat for an hour or so, lunching, and more strolling. It was an absolute delight!
However, we still can't stand the sound of people loudly consuming their meal.

10. A Comforting Presence
There was something unique about her on our initial date, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. She just had this comforting presence.
Our very first New Year's Eve together in 1980-81 was a blast, full of dancing and a little too much to drink. Come morning, my bare cupboards and pounding headache reminded me of the night before. I called her up, spilled the beans, and her response was to offer to whip me up some breakfast.
One day, I was busy giving the garage door a fresh coat of paint and mentioned it to her. She didn't hesitate, coming right over to lend a hand. Money was tight at the time, and living in a small town meant everyone knew it. Many girls avoided me because my humble car and little apartment were a dead giveaway of my financial status. She was different though.
Whenever my pockets didn't allow for a night out, she would happily chip in and we'd enjoy a modest date. Sadly, my parents passed away not long after, a devastating event that oddly made me wealthy overnight. All of a sudden, those who'd rejected me before started showing interest. But their newfound attention was water off a duck's back – it was already too late.
With the woman who had loved me when I had nothing by my side, I was able to shower her with a beautiful house, a shiny new car, and a generous diamond ring. As I see it, poetic justice was served. We tied the knot in 1984 and have remained happily married ever since.
11. A Helping Of Niceness
When I went on my first date with my ex-girlfriend, we saw a vendor having a tough time with their cart at the park. They were trying to pack up their food stand for the day. Without thinking twice, she was on her feet ready to help.
She had no worries about whether I'd think her abrupt or rude, not that I did. She immediately responded to this person in need. After the vendor overcame her cart problem, my ex sat back down. This type of selfless action was something I saw consistently thereafter.
Anytime she saw someone in need, she was always ready to lend a hand. She was definitely that kind of person. No questions asked. Plus, she had this light-hearted, fun manner that made folks feel comfortable accepting her assistance. That first date, it hit me. And I disclosed my thoughts to her later.
She couldn't comprehend why I was so in awe of her actions, but it was something I greatly admired. Especially after spending years with a man who was unkind and completely self-centered.
I knew what the complete opposite of kindness looked like. I knew how being subjected to such behavior can change a person. I had seen struggles firsthand. And I recognized that she was a gem. Because her actions weren't to show off or win my approval. She didn't need my go-ahead. She spotted a need and immediately sprang into action.
12. A Picture-Perfect Night
The initial evening I spent with my now-partner felt just like a scene from a movie. We were in our mid-twenties, just casual acquaintances at the time. He was in town visiting, and we decided to hang out.
There was an unforgettable moment from that evening—it was when we tried to get drinks at a jam-packed bar. It's etched in my mind how it seemed like we were the only clear figures in a whirlpool of people.
We ended up dancing the night away, I showed him the beautiful skyline of New York City, and we made a two-mile trek back to my apartment, and topped it off by eating street tacos at the break of dawn. It was an extraordinary night akin to a cinematic spectacle. Just three months on, he relocated to New York and we've been inseparable for nearly eight years now.
13. A Lovely Grocery Run
So, I bumped into my current boyfriend on Tinder, and honestly, I didn't expect much from this connection because, well, it was just Tinder.
We started chatting in the app, and eventually, he shared his phone number with me. He was quick and asked me to hang out the next day. I readily agreed! We both call Finland our home, only a quick 10-minute drive from the Swedish border, so we decided to steer towards Sweden.
His agenda included grabbing some groceries and filling up the car with gas, so that's the first thing we did before veering back to Finland. After dropping me off at my place, he expressed his hope to see me again.
Later that same night, he dialled me, eagerly asking to see me again, as he thoroughly enjoyed our hangout and yearned for more.
He felt the need to apologize for the run-of-the-mill grocery store date earlier in the day, but I reassured him that I didn't mind at all. I confessed that I'd had a pleasant time and wished to see him again as well.
That evening led us to his cabin. It oozed romance! Despite the freezing cold outside, we warmed up with cuddles and heartfelt conversations lighting up the night. I am incredibly in love with him and I have this odd feeling that he might pop 'the question' soon!
14. An Encouraging Sign
We checked out an amateur stand-up comedy gig he'd suggested. The way he was hysterically laughing at each joke left me perplexed. Honestly, the humor was non-existent. The jokes were downright terrible. My mind was starting to veer towards an exit strategy from this date, majorly because his humor taste seemed questionable. But then, something unexpected happened.
On our walk back to the car, he candidly confessed how terrible the lineup had been that night. He just wanted to inspire and motivate them, so he laughed wholeheartedly at every single joke. Fast forward to today, we've been happily married for 12 years.
15. Seeing Who I Am
After experiencing a spinal cord injury, which led to paraplegia, my former husband couldn't come to terms with this new reality. However, during my inaugural date with my current boyfriend, he embraced me for who I am, not seeing me as a disabled girl. The topic of my disability never arose in our conversations, and he acted as if it was irrelevant. It was truly beautiful that he looked beyond my wheelchair.
Up to now, he hasn't turned my disability into a big issue. He comprehends the peculiarities it brings along, but never outwardly appears troubled or inconvenienced by it. Actually, he went out of his way to use a fair bit of his own money to install a ramp at his house for my convenience. Although I don't plan on us tying the knot, he unquestionably is my lifelong companion.
16. A Balanced Relationship
My colleague and I gradually went from being just friends to a light-hearted flirtation phase. I chose a laid-back ensemble for our first date, a crisp white shirt, comfortable jeans and my favorite going-out shoes. However, she arrived more dressed up than expected, struggling to maintain her balance in high heels, and unfortunately, she tripped and scraped her knee.
I immediately came to her aid, fetching a spare pair of shoes and socks from my car. I helped to get them on her feet and then patched up her injured knee with supplies from my first-aid kit. The rest of our date went smoothly; we enjoyed a pleasant dinner, perfectly complementing each other's company. At the end of the evening, as I was escorting her to her car, she surprised me—she gave me a peck on the cheek.
Seizing the moment, I asked her for another date, right then and there. Fast-forward to the present, it's been a year and a half of blissful togetherness. Her family fancies me; her mother, in particular, is a huge fan of my culinary skills. My own family is head over heels for her too. I truly believe that we have a promising future ahead and in her, I cannot imagine a better partner.
17. A Clear Direction
He definitely set a tone that it was a date, showing his interest without making me uncomfortable or seeming like he was pushing for anything. We chatted for quite a while, moved from eating at a restaurant to a leisurely walk along the river, all the way to my apartment. I offered he could spend the night, but only on a floor mattress.
I was living in a one-room flat with no couch, and I wasn't comfortable with him in my bed, but he didn’t insist on anything further. In the initial weeks, he consistently showed kindness and respect, making his desire for a relationship incredibly apparent, without any confusion or flip-flopping. Fast forward to now, and we’re happily married!
18. Peculiar Tastes
We attended a pretty high-end restaurant, and let's just say, my child-like taste buds tend to pose a challenge. Generally, I can locate an acceptable dish but this time, practically nothing on the menu seemed suitable to my liking. Fortunately, they had Mac and cheese available.
Now picture this, we're in our early 30s, dining at a posh place. Imagine the stares if I were to order Mac and cheese, I'd look like a kid! As the waiter approaches, I could feel panic building up. I play it safe by letting her order first. To my relief, she goes for the Mac and cheese. Incredible! With a sigh of relief, I order the same.
After dinner, we check out a live jazz concert. When we exit, we find an unexpected snowfall had covered the streets. Somehow the topic of performing donuts in the parking lot cropped up. To my astonishment, she expressed fascination as she had never done that before.
Under such encouragement, I decide to give the Forester a real run for its money. With traction control turned off and windows covered in a blanket of snow, I'd say we had a great time. She was laughing gleefully throughout.
19. A Good Listener
We had just settled into our seats when he assured me that he was footing the bill, since he was the one who'd invited me. After we exited the cafe, he proposed we take a leisurely stroll, which we did. He paid close attention to our conversation, and at the end, offered to escort me home based on my earlier mentions of unsolicited attention from other men.
I particularly appreciated how he patiently waited for me to initiate the parting hug at the end. And his way of broaching the subject of a goodnight kiss was masterful. We embraced, and he playfully lamented, "Oh the never-ending first date kiss dilemma". That's when I realized he would respect my choice if I decided against it. But I opted for it. Truly, it was a beautiful first date.
I'm grateful I've had the chance to experience this kind of date at least once to date,
20. Not A Single Drop
From the moment I first met my husband, he was always kind. This became clear one day when we were hanging out with mutual friends, deciding to take a leisurely group stroll. Halfway through our journey, the scene completely changed—it started to rain, which is something he had anticipated, as he brought his umbrella along.
As soon as we felt the initial sprinkle from the sky, he instinctively unfolded his umbrella and made sure I was protected from the rain. There was no obligation on his part—after all, we were just friends then, and it wasn't like we had spent a lot of time together yet. But his considerate gesture meant a lot to me, and I felt the desire to spend more time with him.
Reflecting on these memories, I understand better why I fell in love with him. His kindness has truly been a consistent trait.
21. Across The World
About 18 years back, after wrapping up a concert at a church, a girl I was with pointed at the wall and asked, "Who is that guy hanging on the wall?" Taken aback, I said, "Do you mean Jesus?" She innocently replied, "I don't know!" Our friendship evolved over the years, and eventually, I married her.
By the way, she's from Japan and had never heard of Jesus before.
22. The Speed-Date
My former boyfriend once surprised me by whisking me away from work to the Italian restaurant beside my job. This place was, coincidentally, one of my top dining spots. He had planned a delightful surprise for me.
He had a dish of chicken carbonara prepped and set up at a table, knowing I only had a brief 15-minute break. Following that, he sorted out a drink and gave me the remaining food, accompanied by a helping of piping hot fries. With my limited break time, I had to eat fast and then scamper back to work, which explains why I had leftovers. Also, he's aware of my weakness for this eatery's french fries.
23. Sharing Questions
I've been on plenty of first dates before, but they were all sort of stiff and uncomfortable. Then, I connected with this girl online, and we decided to meet for breakfast. I was really nervous because I thought she was way out of my league.
We sat down and began to chat. I was surprised by how many questions she asked and how involved she was in our discussion—I was usually the one doing most of the questioning. We shared several laughs and some personal stories too.
As we prepped to leave, she mentioned that she's into weightlifting. This sparked up another interesting talk. She even offered to show me her lifting belt and gear in her car. She seemed really excited and was smiling the entire time.
Just as I was about to suggest a second date, she beat me to the punch, asking if I was up for another meetup.
24. Worth My Time
I met this man at a party we both had been invited to and, the next day, he reached out to chat online. I happened to share my plans of catching a movie with some friends, and he seemed genuinely excited to join. So, I invited him. We had a great time and he gave me a call afterwards.
He spoke up—and his directness was like a breath of fresh air. He said something like, "I have a great time whenever we hang out, and I'm actually interested in getting to know you better. Would you like to go on a date?" No need to decode hidden meanings or endure weeks of being uncertain about the relationship.
At that point in my life, being in my mid-20s, I was growing pretty tired of insincere guys and the often frustrating world of online dating. But things worked out perfectly with this guy. We went on that date and now we're husband and wife, happily raising our two children.
25. Sharing The Weight
I once asked her if she'd like to share some fries at McDonald's because, honestly, that's all I could afford then. Cool as ever, she agreed. We spent hours just chatting and sharing a big box of fries.
She was happy just to be there with me, regardless of the venue... I realized that if she was content going out with me when I was penniless and struggling, she'd surely stick around to construct our life together from scratch.
Fast forward to today, we have spent 35 incredible years together, braving highs and lows, raising our children, battling illness, experiencing bouts of prosperity and periods of scarcity.
26. Easing In
On our initial date, she was quite reserved. Later learning that this was her first date after a long period of time, it all clicked into place. Yet, as soon as we kicked off a topic that she was passionate about, she became a chatterbox. Our next date threw me off a bit as she mentioned feeling tired by 9 pm. I assumed things weren't going smoothly.
Surprisingly, once she was home with her new puppy, she sprung back into action, and we spent the rest of the evening texting. This shifted my perspective on how our date had transpired. Fast forward to now, and we're a happily married couple with a freshly minted baby who's just eight weeks old. My affection for her and our little family knows no bounds.
27. Alleviating Anxiety
I felt like a nervous wreck for the initial thirty minutes. He inquired if everything was alright, to which I confessed that first dates make me incredibly anxious as I fear I might blunder something. He then asked what activities we could take part in that would keep my nerves in check.
In response, I told him that engaging in some form of physical endeavor often helps me converse freely without worrying about my appearance or how I sound. Altered plans resulted in a trip to mini-golf, a shift that made me forget about my initial anxieties entirely.
28. Letting Me Speak
On our second outing, my then-boyfriend and I decided to take a stroll. During our walk, we were intercepted by one of those 'listen to this crucial issue' individuals. Without missing a beat, my date informed them we were running late and didn't have time for their talk. Just as we were about to continue, he paused.
He spun around to face me, apologizing, "I hope you don't mind, I kind of just made that decision for you. Were you interested in what they had to say?" Honestly, my heart melted right on the spot. I knew he was a keeper from then on. Fast forward and we've now been happily together for eight years!
29. The Gardeners
You could say that our "first date" was a secret sneak-away for a walk at the place we both worked. We kept our dating under wraps until we declared our engagement, much to our boss' chagrin.
She would often run ahead of me during our walks on the grounds, fascinated by various flower clusters. She loved expressing which ones she adored the most, and reveling in their beauty.
Then, she'd realise she'd sprinted ahead without me. She would then trot back to where I was, leading me to her favourite buds. It was sheer cuteness overload, and she's just as cute now. I had never seen anyone who was so thrilled by flowers. We are now celebrating our fourth year of being happily married.
30. Impromptu Plans
We were two international postgrad students living in Italy. One Friday evening, we were out, hopping from one bar to another until 4am—that's when local regulations mandate bars to shut. Wondering where to head next, I asked her and her swift reply was, "the beach."
So, we quickly visited our respective homes, grabbed our swimwear, towels, and a change of clothes. The next thing we know, we're on the first train to Cinque Terre. What started as a simple night out unexpectedly morphed into an entire weekend at the beach!
31. A Simple Friendship
It wasn't our first outing, but after spending a few weeks together, I shared with him that I didn't see us as a couple. His response was, "Hey, can we still maintain our friendship? I enjoy your company". After that, we spent the whole day together just like best friends, only for me to end up kissing him by nightfall.
Now, we're happily married. My teenage years were tricky though. Guys were either openly pursued a relationship with me, or remained my friends only until I rejected their advances. But he, he liked me for exactly who I was!
32. Putting Up With All Of It
This gentleman was suffering from painful kidney stones that morning, yet he was adamant to not call off our scheduled get-together. I reassured him it was okay and we could arrange it for another day—but his response armed my heart. He told me no amount of pain would stop him from seeing me. We went ahead with the date. This guy must have liked me a lot if he could brave such discomfort just to spend time with me.
33. Again And Again...
Back in 1989, both of us were excited about the Batman movie, but we didn't really have any partners to go with. So, we settled on a friendly outing—just watching the film and grabbing a burger later. To our surprise, we spent hours talking and decided to meet again either at the mall or for a walk in the local park the following weekend. Sure enough, we did. But it didn't end there.
This became our routine for several months. Eventually, we found ourselves joking about "if we get married". Interestingly, on one such night, one of us unintentionally asked, "When are we getting married," to which the response was, "When". The funny part is, we both remember that night but each of us recalls it was the other person who posed the question.
34. Our First Meeting
We had decided to kick things off with a coffee meeting. When she walked in, I couldn't believe my eyes—she was simply breathtaking. But then she gave me a shy grin and wave, that's when I realized it was her.
We spent an enjoyable time chatting, laughing, and sipping our coffee. It felt like around 20 minutes, yet suddenly we were the last people in the coffee shop, which was about to close down. I escorted her to her car, where she unexpectedly pulled me into the warmest hug. It was a genuinely heartwarming gesture.
The following week, I planned an actual date, which turned out to be genuinely enchanting. I decided to wait a few days before reaching out, so as to not appear too eager. Gathering my nerves, I phoned her. After an engaging conversation, I mustered the courage to ask her if she'd be fine with going out again sometime.
Her response was enthusiastic, "What? Of course, you can! I'd LOVE to go out with you again!" And that's how I met my soulmate.
35. The Way To My Heart
He kindly jotted down for me the route from my home to where we were meeting. We resided in Japan at that time and I usually used public transport.
The guidance he gave contained details like which train I should board, how long I had to wait between connections, and the most convenient train car to be in for an easy transfer, among other things. Useful landmarks were also specified, such as "make a left turn at the soba stand," and instructions were given in case I missed a transfer.
Even though I could have rustled up all these details from the Internet, his thoughtfully provided directions touched my heart. Even after 15 years of marriage and a child together, he's still a pro at giving great directions.
36. Loveable Lamps
My lamp isn't just any lamp; it's a vintage sign from local phone shops in my homeland. It's more interesting though—I added some legs to transform it into a stylish floor lamp. It radiates a warm glow, sparking engaging conversations. Although, I'm aware that it may seem oddly tech-nerdish to some; she, however, liked it.
This could mean one of two things—either she genuinely dug its charm, proving her splendid taste, or, she was happy because I was. She found joy in my joy, which is a fantastic trait for someone you plan on sharing your life with.
37. An Easy Decision
During my initial rendezvous with the man who would become my husband, one thing I swiftly noticed was his smokey aroma, clear evidence that he was a cigarette smoker. This was a complete no-go for me, and I didn’t hesitate to share my feelings. His answer? "Well, then I'm done smoking." As simple as that!
He ended a decade-long smoking habit just like that—for a woman he had only just met! A while into our life together, he confessed that giving up smoking seemed like a minor concession. On that first encounter, he had a gut feeling that he had found his future spouse. So, according to him, what's a small sacrifice like quitting smoking if it’s for me?
38. When You Just Know
She suggested we have our first date at my house, just to chat and appreciate being together. Truth be told, by the time we were wrapping up our date, she hinted at a hug, and I suspected she wouldn't have minded a kiss. But, I decided to keep the anticipation alive until our second encounter.
Immediately, we both felt something special and texted one another expressing how much we enjoyed our time together. Without wasting time, we planned our next get-together on the spot. It was such a refreshing change, and I'm thrilled to report that we're now a couple.
39. Our Little Bubbles
We first got together for a coffee date, which we'd set up using a dating website. He accompanied me to my car while subtly maintaining a comfortable space between us. Fast forward to now, we're celebrating 15 years of marriage and been together for 17 years. It turns out, he actually just values his personal space a lot. But what I really love about him is his thoughtfulness, and the fact that he's never overly assertive, and that's significant to me.
40. Helping My Indecision
Deciding what to eat really trips me up, and picking from a restaurant menu is the worst. My indecisiveness, tied to my autism and past food challenges, makes the decision of eating out feel entirely unmanageable.
I confessed to him that going out to eat or ordering food could be difficult for me. He suggested a way to make it easier—he'd handle the ordering if I chose from the menu. I agreed, and we ended up at a dumpling restaurant. While it might seem trivial to some, many people would just disregard or make light of such an issue.
I found his sensitivity to my predicament super appealing. His consideration meant the world to me.
41. A Chance Meeting
Our paths crossed during a blind date at a quaint local pub, and we instantly connected. Soon, she suggested we explore a happening night club humming with live music in a busier region of town. The mutual spark continued as the night unfolded, culminating with an invitation to her home. Here we spent hours conversing, sipping drinks, and immersing ourselves in the deep notes of various music pieces.
The evening took a charmingly domestic turn when she found herself craving some snacks but was unable to drive and was running low on food supplies. Suddenly, I found myself seated with her on my lap, sharing comforting bites of instant garlic mashed potatoes straight from the pot. Accompanied by her melodic rendition of Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel," the moment was warm, candid, and unforgettable in its simplicity.
Fast forward, it's now been 12 years of ups and downs, three beautiful children later, we still delight in these playful, private moments reminiscent of our unique beginning.
42. Trading More Than Cards
The person I'm seeing is quite fond of Magic the Gathering, a card game I'm not well-versed in. On our inaugural outing, he couldn't contain his enthusiasm as he showed me his card deck—I found his passion endearing, even though I was a novice about the game. Teasingly, I asked if I could pilfer a card from his collection.
With agreement in his voice, he responded, "Absolutely, I'll hand you a card with superior artwork tomorrow". True to his word, he presented me with a beautifully designed card the very next day—and it was even inspired by Japanese artistry in a nod to my interest in Japanese culture.
43. Fitting Together
The first time we bumped into each other was purely by chance at a casual get-together. We didn't plan it; we just ended up at the same club that night. As the night unfolded, we found ourselves deep in conversation, comfortable and clicking with one another.
His interest in me was evident as he asked questions and genuinely listened to my responses. He wasn't trying to win me over or flaunt himself—he was just being real.
The following morning, he texted, expressing his joy at having met me and how wonderful the previous night was. A few days later, we enjoyed a pizza and movie night at his place, mostly spending the time chatting. With a sweetness and romance in his expressions, he stated his desire to be with me. Fast forward, and fourteen years later, we're still together.
44. A Seaside Romance
After being friends for half a year, he invited me out. Our original plan was just to take an hour-long drive, enjoy a picnic together, and then return home. However, our plans changed, and I'm so glad they did—we ended up going all the way to the seaside, parked the car near the ocean, and spent time looking for whales, seals, and penguins.
We spent the entire day there, chatting and munching on our picnic foods, and even decided to stay overnight, sleeping in the back of the car on the beach. It was an perfect experience. The following morning, he proposed to me. And I said yes.
45. One In A Million
After a photoshoot at a college campus, I had a spur-of-the-moment idea. "Could this girl be free to meet up right this instant?" I wondered. So, I texted her at 8, "This might sound crazy, but are you free to hang out in nature now, just you and a total stranger? We'll go on a proper date soon, I promise." She agreed and said she could get there by 8:30.
Night fell quickly while we walked towards an obscure bench. As we sat, our conversation turned into a cheeky jest about how easy it'd be to conceal a body in such a secluded park. She tried to outdo my jokes at every turn. Honestly, she's too beautiful to be so naive.
A stunning girl who prepares in 10 minutes, brings drinks, and cracks cheeky jokes? That doesn't occur often. That day was a year ago yesterday. I can hardly wait to meet her at 5 pm today. She'll be assisting me in digging a trench to lay conduit to my garage, after which I plan to snuggle up with her till morning light.
46. Jumpscare!
We were set to rendezvous at a particular spot in the park. As I neared, I caught sight of him, engrossed in his phone and not noticing my approach. An amusing thought occurred to me—to tiptoe up from behind and shout "wazzaaaaa," giving him a fright for fun.
With my best imitation of a cartoon character, I snuck nearly all the way up to him. Unexpectedly, he pivots, gives me a casual hello and leaves me baffled about how he sensed me. With a laugh, he revels, "Your necklace was jingling away too much." Fast forward seven years, and he's still putting up with my silly escapades.
47. Jump On
We ended up hanging out at the bar longer than anticipated. With hunger pangs setting in, we were desperate to get to a restaurant before all of them shut down for the night. Seeing her struggle in her heels, I suggested giving her a piggyback ride to speed things up. Excitedly, she hopped onto my back, pointing ahead, she shouted "Let's go!"
Unfortunately, we missed grabbing a meal at the restaurant but found ourselves at a close-by diner where we spent a couple more hours. Fast forward to now, we've been happily married for just over three years.
48. Seeing Something Good
I got to our meeting point half an hour ahead of time with plans to apply my makeup in the car. Fifteen minutes later, I watched as he pulled into the parking lot, oblivious of my presence. He exited his vehicle and began to stride towards the cafe we intended to meet.
As I watched, a moving scene unfolded before me. A man, evidently homeless, approached him. He then returned to his car, rummaged for some loose change for him. Though I never mentioned witnessing this act, it truly warmed my heart and made me even more excited for our meet-up. It also helped to ease my former nerves.
49. Finding The Right Path
In a place that was unfamiliar to me, I was still a newcomer when we first crossed paths at a local eatery. We were having a delightful date, but as we parted ways and I set off in my car, he realized that I had mistakenly taken the service road instead of the freeway.
With no mobile phones or GPS back then, and me not possessing a handy map, he took the initiative to chase after me and pulled me over to alert me that I was heading in the wrong direction. I would have been hopelessly lost in the pitch darkness of the night otherwise. I thought to myself, what a genuinely lovely guy he is! Fast forward 22 years, and we are still a team.
50. Just A Small-Town Girl
It was a new chapter for me, my first solo trip to the city. I spotted this event on Facebook about alternative music and thought, "Why not? Let's give it a go." I was a fresh face, not knowing a single soul, and my experience, up until then, was solely rural living. I was clueless about even ordering a drink.
After aimlessly wandering around a while, this guy noticed my bewildered expression. "You seem lost," he said. He then introduced me to his group of friends, and I ended up spending a good deal of time with them.
Regrettably, I underestimated my tolerance to alcohol and soon became quite sleepy. After I began dozing off, the staff insisted I leave since they didn't want me conking out on their premises.
This same guy offered to accompany me, ensuring I safely boarded my train. As luck would have it, our homes were a mere 20-minute walk apart, so he escorted me home. He left me at my doorstep and walked home alone in the dark, checking up on me the next day to confirm I was ok.
Sadly, I didn't appreciate his kindness at first, but eventually, we became a couple. He's been by my side through so many ups and downs. We're currently celebrating our two-and-a-half-year anniversary.
