Cheating is one of the worst things a person can do to a loved one. Betraying the trust of someone we are supposed to be committed to on such a fundamental level is truly despicable and heartbreaking, and the users of Reddit blew off some steam by telling the tales of their very worst, no good cheating exes.
1. We Feel for You
This is so recent (a week ago). I went to the spot I first took her to on the ship we worked on to surprise her, and she was on top of another dude. They looked me in the face and laughed when they saw me.
2. Congrats, Buddy!
Found out via Facebook a few months after I had broken up with him that he cheated on me. I was still friends with his siblings and parents, and they were tagged in some photos of him. Holding his clearly to-term newborn son. Less than nine months after I broke up with him.
3. Something Not to Be Thankful For
I'm not on great terms with my family, so I suggested making a roast chicken for the two of us for Thanksgiving. She opted to go to her roommate's family's place—the roommate who I learned she was sleeping with shortly afterward.
4. Wrong Place, Wrong Time
I was at a party with a group of friends. I was standing behind my best friend talking in a group when my friend all of the sudden gets a text. I look at his phone and it's my girlfriend's full name and her asking when he is going to be over. She was supposed to be out of town at her mom's house.
5. Did He Get an A+?
I caught my boyfriend of two years. He had asked me to proofread his paper on his Mac and the text messenger popped up in the right hand. He was sitting in his bed texting some girl "goodnight, I love you" while sitting right next to me in his bed. I deleted his entire paper, wrote "Who's Marissa?" saved it and told him it looks great and left.
She was his girlfriend of eight years who lived next to his parents two hours away.
6. A Sudden Change of Heart
I knew he was cheating when he suddenly became concerned about his looks but didn’t want me to look good. He went on a diet, started wearing contacts, and started shaving his pubic hair, which he wouldn’t do for me. Also became distant, had a lack of interest in sex, spent a lot of time on his phone, had weird mood swings that didn’t relate to our relationship fights/make ups, along with lots of other signs.
7. The Perspective From the Other Side of Things
I was "roommate with benefits" before and somehow I was the other woman. I don't know how he thought he was going to be able to keep the two of us a secret from each other. It's been about five years and when I think about it the emotion that comes back isn't sadness or anger from the betrayal, but amazement that he thought he was going to get away with it.
8. The Question You Don’t Want Answered
Back when Myspace survey quizzes were popular, I was reading one that she posted. A question on the quiz read "Who was the last person you kissed/had sex with?" The answer was not my name...
9. Racking up the Minutes
Phone bill was three times bigger than it should have been. Over 400 minutes to one number. The kicker was that she also had a company cell phone with unlimited calls that I obviously never would have known about, and the guy was someone she worked with. She literally wanted to get caught because she was too weak to tell me to my face.
10. Scheduling Conflict
Had been with this chick for about one year. At our school summer camp, a guy from the class above me came up to me and straight up said: "Hey, I hear you’re so and so's new boyfriend, I’m her ex and just wanted to say hello.” I didn't really know what to make of the situation but for some reason, I just asked when they broke up, and he said: "oh like one month ago." Needless to say, that relationship was over quickly.
11. A Little Subtlety Can Go a Long Way
Right before my ex got caught cheating, I saw his phone laying on the couch like it fell out of his pocket. I picked it up just as he realized he'd dropped it. I swear, he leapt across the room to take it from my hand before I could even say a word. I had already begun suspecting, but that was pretty definitive that I was right.
12. Setting an Example for the Baby
When I got home from work, she would be going to work and I would be hanging out with our baby. Around the time he was one and a half, she started going to the bar with co-workers. I was fine with it because it wasn't often, maybe one night a week, and she came back home by 12. It quickly got up to coming home between 2:30 am and 4 am, plastered, four to six times a week.
She started mentioning this one co-worker a lot and how cool he was. My paranoia got the better of me and I checked her phone one alcohol-induced coma night and she had been trying to get said co-worker to meet with her at an abandoned gas station a few miles up the road while she was on her way out.
I approached her and asked what she planned to do when he showed up, "just hang out and shoot the s***!" to which I replied, "While you’re drunk, at 2 am, behind an abandoned gas station..." She never admitted to it, but that, a lot of not-even-subtle clues and people I knew seeing her out at the bar gave me all I needed to know.
13. The Roommate Disagreement
She was having an argument with a housemate and they shouted at her—with me in the room—“At least I'm not cheating on my fiancé!” She moved out less than a week later.
14. Happy...Birthday?
I went to her 18th birthday party. I wandered around mingling with all her friends, and then I realized I hadn't seen her anywhere in like 45 minutes. I thought nothing of it at first, but then I went downstairs to use the basement bathroom. It was locked. I knocked and I heard a very breathy female voice say, "Occupied! Go Away!" Since I really had to go, I decided to wait.
GF came stumbling out of the bathroom with some guy about ten minutes later, looking all flustered and stinking. Apparently, the guy bought himself a bathroom quickie with a few hits of a toke. She made some excuse about how they were "just talking" and he was an old friend. I shrugged, actually wanting to believe her.
But when I went in to finally go to the bathroom, the stupid girl had forgotten her panties on the bathroom floor. I handed them to her in front of all her friends upstairs and walked out. "Here. You forgot these in the bathroom downstairs." It was one of those classic zinger moments when you really burned someone, but at the time, I just felt sick and brokenhearted.
15. Those Dog-Walkers Will Get You Every Time
Not so subtle, but my ex was being guarded with his phone, and every time I caught a glimpse of the screen while he was using it, it was the same girl. Asked who she is and it's his friend from "dog-walking club" Yeah right—they actually met on Tinder. He also went through my phone, and not very subtly either, because he accidentally sent random thumbs up to a lot of people on Facebook chat.
Then there was the random message from the above-mentioned girl, who had gone to the effort of looking me up and telling me to"back off her boyfriend." Hahahahahaha. There were a lot of things she didn't know either, apparently.
16. Thanks for the Reminder
I technically didn't catch him cheating, because he came clean about it when he broke up with me. I did, however, find out who he cheated with. He told me it was with his friend Natalie, who I had never heard of before, except for the time maybe days earlier when he told me about his "half black" friend Natalie. Ok, at the time I wasn't sure why he shared this detail.
This was ten years ago when we were all fresh out of high school, so I don't remember exactly how the conversation went. Days go by and a coworker asks me if we're still together, because she saw him kissing a girl, and she shares her description as "darker skinned." I tell her we broke up, and that's probably the girl he cheated on me with, it's ok.
Days go by and my good friend Nora's older brother invites me to hang out, totally out of the blue. I take him up on it and we go to a park near his parents' house. Lo, we spot Nora's car. We're walking through the park and there's Nora's parents' dog running around off leash. And there, on a gentle slope, is Nora and my recent ex making out on the grass.
Nora and her brother are Egyptian and could easily be described as "half black" or "darker skinned." My ex had made Natalie up.
17. Status: It’s Not That Complicated
Literally five hours after we broke up, he updated his Facebook relationship status to "engaged" to a girl who I thought he was just friends with. She uploaded a photo showing off the ring with the caption "he finally asked, and I said yes!"
18. Second in Command
Phone dinged, I checked it, (same phones no case both charging next to each other.) The text said, "I miss you too" and was from a girl he was dating when we were separated. Fast forward a few months to when he deploys. Check his email because at this point I know something is up. Find emails, so I contact the mistress.
She was very transparent with me and told me that basically, they were dating before he even met me, which means he courted me, asked me to marry him, married me then we had a child together all while he was still seeing her. We separate for a year, he dates her exclusively, we get back together, and he maintains a relationship with her. All of this without me knowing.
I found this all out while I was a month away from birthing his second child and he's getting shot at in Afghanistan. We decide to work through it, but I never could get over the fact that he cheated on me for four years and had no problem hiding it from me, and only came clean because I found out, as in, he had no intention of coming clean.
When he returned home he confessed to many other times with other people (thank GOD I never got an STD). After three subsequent years of him refusing to go to counseling so that we can ACTUALLY deal with it, he tells me he wants a divorce (a month before we are supposed to get a permanent change of station to Alaska). Moved back home with the kids, filed for divorce and life is amazingly better now. Screw that guy!
19. Raise the Roof
My cousin showed me a picture of her hooking up with the male stripper at her bachelorette party.
20. For My Ears Only
I caught my dad cheating on my stepmom because he said he wanted to listen to Adele on my headphones. The second he said that, I knew something was up. He would never take me and my sister out for any reason other than personal pleasure and why ask for my headphones. I come to find out after a little bit of snooping on his phone that he was sending Facebook audio messages to girls, so his wife couldn't read the messages. That really changed how I saw my dad.
21. Not That Kind of Emergency
She told me her little cousin (who is mentally handicapped) swallowed something (a battery I think) and was in the hospital in NC and was flying down there. Later, she went and took a nap. I was on the computer, clicked on the favorite place link to Gmail and saw a flight confirmation email to NY. I realized it was her account and not mine.
I sat at the edge of the bed calm as could be and as soon as she woke up I asked her what she was doing in NY. She tried to say she didn't know what I was talking about, but I told her I saw the email. She then said she was going to visit some friends, and I was like oh, is that why you made up this big lie about your cousin?
22. Dial 1 for Heartbreak
He was in the basement of the house we had JUST BOUGHT TOGETHER having phone sex with her, not realizing that the sound would travel through the vents. It sucked at the time but in hindsight, he did me a huge favor.
23. Wake up Call
My girlfriend started working with and talking about this girl and inviting the girl and her GF to go to dinner with us. We went on a double date with this couple a few times over the course of three weeks and I noticed every time we were all four out, my girlfriend would drink much more heavily than usual. It was weird.
We were having them over for dinner one Sunday, but had an adult sports game before (which usually involved light drinking) and she was acting super weird about making sure we were home on time and had dinner ready, etc. That night, after they left, she passed out on the couch next to me. Her Apple watch buzzed, and I glanced over and saw a selfie of this girl.
This was enough to get me to look at her phone (for the first time ever) where I find texts with sexting and details about their hookup. I took screenshots of all of it and sent it to my phone.I got dressed, texted a friend, packed a backpack, and woke her up by throwing her phone (with those messages open) at her and walking out the door.
She groggily sorted it all out and attempted to contact me all night and eventually texted the other girl's GF those screenshots, which I thought was pretty cruddy. Sort of an "if I'm going down, you're going down with me."
24. Fashion Statements
My first GF, that I had lost my virginity to, banged some dude from high school that allowed her to wear his letterman jacket home since it was cold. He came to her house to get it back and said it just felt right. All while I was at work. The worst part was she told me on AIM when I got home!
25. Sleepover
He has a longtime friend of his (who happened to be female) who was staying the night. She was sleeping in the basement bedroom and we were upstairs. Well, he slipped out of bed in the middle of the night and woke me up. When he noticed, he told me he had to go to the bathroom. I guess I already had my suspicions, because I lay there and listened to him walk down the hall, then past the bathroom, and down the stairs.
So, I followed. And caught him in the basement getting ready to have sex with her. Oh. I was not a happy puppy. Was stupid and tried to salvage our engagement, but I wasn't "fun anymore" and he left.
26. While You Were Working
My ex worked a night shift and I worked day shift, so I'd wait for her to come home (so kids wouldn't be sleeping alone) and one night she just didn't show up...Pulled up Find my iPhone to find out she's at her ex’s house. She came home a little later after texting/calling her constantly with some extra news: he got her pregnant...What a wonderful day.
27. Good Luck Getting a Ride
I had let her borrow my car while I took the bus to work, my friend called me at work to say that my girl was making out with some guy in my car. So I got a taxi over there and yup, there she was. I knocked on the window guy jumped out. I was going to start beating his ass, but I told him to just leave, this might not be your fault.
She started making excuses, I just asked her to step out of the car. Got my keys and drove away a mess, she screwed me up for a long time. She made me lose trust in women and messed up my concept of relationships for a long time.
28. Say Cheese!
When I was at college we had this campus Twitter account that people would post pictures of random people caught making out at parties to. I blacked out one Saturday night and woke up to a few angry texts…
29. Band Camp Blues
When I was 14/15 years old and at band camp, my best friend (let's call her Emma) and I were dating two boys who were best friends. Typical, right? So, one day Emma and I get out of rehearsal and we go to meet up with our boyfriends, who are nowhere to be found. So we look harder, we're wandering around campus, and we hear low voices behind a ledge.
Lo and behold, our precious boyfriends were there...MAKING OUT WITH EACH OTHER. Emma immediately started crying, which caused the boys to pull apart with a suctiony schluuurp. I suppose I wasn't as in love with Boyfriend as I thought, because my reaction was to laugh hysterically. I had never seen two boys make out before. It wasn't bad.
30. Double Standards
She told me in gratuitous detail the name, body type and acts she performed with like ten different dudes—ranging from making out to intercourse with "only" two dudes. She thought I would forgive her and it’d bring us closer and like it’d be good, so we could talk about those experiences together. After this, she moved for an "open" relationship—which made it all okay because she'd get to retroactively apply our "open" status.
I was young, in love, and heartbroken so I said yes because I was desperate to hang on to her. Then she broke up with me when I hooked up with someone else after like four months of "open" status and her having like a primary friend-with-benefits because I "liked her too much."
31. Gridlock
Was dating a girl in college and didn't think she was cheating. Another guy she was dating thought she was. He found my info in her phone and texts me about it. He wants to confront her. We both meet up at her place while she isn't home. He's a nice guy and we honestly got along pretty well for the half hour we talked before she arrived.
She saw us both as she drove up and the look on her face was shock. By the time she got out of her car she was crying but didn't say a word to us. We went in her apartment and her roommate acted as the mediator but it didn't really get anywhere. Me and the other guy were pissed and wanted answers. We weren't getting any so we both gave her some choice words and rolled out.
32. It’s Either Me or Pop Tarts
A friend in college cheated on his girlfriend because she told him he had to stop eating pop tarts so he could lose weight, and he didn't know how to break up with her. When she found out, he straight up told her to her face that he couldn't give up pop tarts. I wish that was a lie, those things are pretty darn high in calories.
33. Neal, Neal, Neal
My GF was getting ready for work one day and I noticed she was wearing makeup which she hadn't done in a very long time. I sarcastically asked her, "Is Neal working tonight with you?" to which she said, “no, I just wanted to look nice today.” I dropped her off at work and who was there? Neal, that dirty rat. Like in other stories, sometimes it's the abrupt change in a subtle thing about a person that sets off the warning bells.
34. Well This One Is a Little Weird...
I've never been able to explain it, but I saw my ex cheating on me in a dream. I saw everything. I told her about it and she freaked out. (To be fair, I described the dude's bedspread, fish-tank, and his room. I have never been there).
35. Wouldn’t Wait
I was 17 and he was my first boyfriend. I wasn't going to sleep with him and told him as much, so he was having sex with a girl who I knew from church youth group in his car before he would come hang out with me. She wanted him all to herself, so she showed me the messages—I was dumb and didn't believe her because this wasn't the first time she had stirred up drama like this.
Sure enough, his car was outside the church in the back corner of the parking lot and he was waiting for her. Although, TBH, I was mostly just dating him because I hadn't been kissed yet and was tired of waiting for someone I could see myself falling in love with. I was angrier over the humiliation of being cheated on more than because I loved him.
36. Star-Crossed Lovers
My ex was very into astrology. She cheated on me, and blamed it on the timing of the great American eclipse of August 2017.
37. Delete From Contacts
Ex-girlfriend. Woke up one morning and it was plastered all over her Snapchat story of her making out with her ex at some Christmas party. This was the day after a very intense romantic evening with her...Was a tough day to get through for sure. She decided to completely drop contact with me after with no answers as to what happened, but thank goodness I'm out of that train wreck now though...One month on and I'm doing much better.
38. You Haven’t Evolved Enough to Come up With a Better Excuse Than That?
When my husband and his mistress got caught, they tried to invoke an evolution argument and convince me that "humans aren't meant to be monogamous." I'm like, "if you don't believe in monogamy, why did you even marry in the first place? You could have joined a free love hippie commune at any time if you wanted to. But that's not what you did."
39. Misplaced Pep Talk
I remember I was brushing my teeth and looking at myself in the mirror, and I thought to myself, "I finally feel like I can trust her! I don't think she has been unfaithful at all to me. That's a good feeling!" I went back to the computer where we had a Skype session going, and I told her my mirror thoughts. I was so proud of myself because I can have trust issues.
She immediately went silent and started biting her lip. I was like "ooooofff course.." She ended up telling me that things got rekindled with her ex, and they started hooking up again. It was just the worst because we were in a long distance stint of our relationship. We broke up, and she got back together with him, and then wanted me back, and then wanted him back. I'm not even sure where it all stands now, but we don't communicate.
40. Betrayed by Your Own Family
My dad told me. 5 years later. On the morning of my wedding to another woman. After I dumped the cheater for unrelated reasons. And my entire family pushed for me to get back together with her. AND THEY KNEW SHE WAS CHEATING.
41. Life is Too Short to Waste on Guys Like Sam
My best friend was in the hospital having emergency surgery, during which she almost died. Her family told her boyfriend, Sam, about her situation. He never responded or showed up to see or ask how she was doing. He then proceeded to cheat on her with some girl from high school, claiming, “She didn’t answer my texts for two whole days!!” Yeah, because she was nearly dead, you jerk!
42. Tripped up
I was gone for a week for work. Got back to my building after a flight home and had no ride. She forgot to come pick me up. I finally got a hold of her, came to pick me up half drunk, went back to our house, I was unpacking and turned around and she had her hair and makeup done and just said "I'm going out, see ya" and left. This was after I had been gone for a week.
The next day was Friday, she had got home after I went to bed and left for work before me. I got home, and she was already gone, and had texted me and said she was going to her friend's house to hang out for a house party for the weekend. I didn't hear from her again for two days despite calling and texting her. She got home late Sunday night and told me she "lost her phone in the couch.”
I told her this wasn't working, and she needed to leave. She packed a bag while I cracked a beer on the couch. A couple days later, my friend emailed me a boatload of pictures from the weekend she disappeared, all of her and the guy she was cheating on me with. He had posted them on his Myspace that Sunday evening. She actually continued to mess up things for me for quite a while after this, financially mostly, but eventually, I got free of that disaster and moved on happily.
43. Good Thing She Didn’t Call Your Bluff
She kept deleting all her texts... I got suspicious and told her I had a cool program on my PC that picks up all texts wirelessly. Confronted her saying I had seen them on my PC, she admitted it without me seeing a thing.
44. Get Thee to a Dentist
One morning, I went to brush my teeth and my toothbrush was wet. I found that odd, so I asked my girlfriend if she had used the blue toothbrush, and she said “yeah” all casual. I said that the pink toothbrush was hers, and she played it off like she didn’t know. I suddenly realized that we had been using the same toothbrush for a few weeks, and it kind of grossed me out. That started a very small argument. I went to work, as did she, but she didn’t come home that night. The next morning, I called her out and she admitted that she slept with another guy who "didn’t think she was gross."
45. Silence Does Not Equal Consent
My ex-girlfriend cheated on me when I fell asleep. She said since I wasn't responding when she asked if I would be okay with it, she assumed I was. Wack!
46. While You Were Healing
Oh man I have a winner. I had surgery on my testicles due to a possible tumor (it wound up being benign), so I'm recovering that evening in bed. My girlfriend (long-distance) visited me to take care of me. All is going great, except for my crotch hurting and my wearing of a diaper—but hey, I had just come back from Afghanistan, so life was still pretty sweet.
My girlfriend offers to make me some food. Sweet. So she asks me to look up a recipe on my phone. I can't find my phone—so she tosses me hers. Well, let me tell you, in the midst of me looking up a great Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe, a message from my friend Ryan flashes across the top of the screen. I can't make it out, but it looks an awful lot like sex.
I'm like, "Oh Ryan, what are you giving a hard time to my girlfriend about," So I click the message, if only to relay what I presumed was a joke to her. Well, let me tell you, the joke was on me. Those two had been going to Bonetown, USA, while I was deployed. They talked about me being gone as a sexcation. My girlfriend asks if I found anything good.
I'm like "Oh heck yeah." Now, I show her the texts. She denies anything happened. Which is, well dumb—so me being a man of dignity, kick her out of the apartment and send her on her way to Georgia. Wearing adult diapers, I kicked her out of my place. Honestly, I just wish I had found out after I had eaten some Cordon Bleu.
47. Love Is Not a Game
I'd finished doing the dailies on my WoW character, and I knew he wasn't going to be home for a while so like many times before (with his permission) I logged into his account to do dailies for him. Then the PM's started. Very explicit PM's. Not only was he cheating on me in a game (with loads of people, cybersex in WoW, eugh). But it got worse.
There was one girl who was talking about things outside the game too. I admit I played along for a while to see what was going on.After that, I told her who I was. It all ended rather badly, between her and I, him and I, and him and her.
48. Be Careful Who You Message
I was dating this dead beat guy for about 2 years. I lived on my parents' property and so did he, for free. One day while I was at work, I go on break and I get a FB message from a guy I barely know. It said "I don't know how you feel about this, but it bothers me." I click it and see a picture. At first I was thinking it was spam and almost deleted it before enlarging it (seemed like one of those click bait titles that hijacks your account).
Something made me decide to click it anyway. When I click it, I see a screenshot of a FB convo between my bf and his gf. He was hitting on her, telling her how much of POS her bf was and how he would treat her so much better than that. He told her not to tell anyone about the convo. Well, sucks for him because the girl immediately showed her bf, who showed me.
Ha! Judging by the time stamps, this conversation took place the previous night at MY house on MY laptop (it was the only way he could have this conversation). Needless to say, I left work early, went home, kicked him out of my place, and made him homeless. Oh well.
49. Less Than Immaculate Conception
I know this is cliche and I've definitely complained about it before, but coming home from a 12-month deployment to a black baby when we're both white were strike one and two. Strike three was her telling me she had black relatives (whom I've never met) so that could be what happened, sure. Doesn't matter what excuse you have, though, there isn't a magical 12 month gestation period. Makes me very angry.
50. Honesty Is the Best Policy
I was married for six years and caught my husband cheating. His response was to just shrug and say, "I got nothing." That was it.
51. Love Dies Tonight
I was laying in bed with my then-SO and wanted to email myself some pictures we had taken that day from his phone to me. The first email was sent a couple hours prior, addressed to someone I didn't recognize. The subject said "love never dies" and all the body said was "I want you." I lay in bed completely stunned. I then typed in the email address in his phone to see if it was a contact, and to my surprise he had sent it to his mom's best friend. That was a long night...
52. She Can’t Keep a Secret
She kept telling me how she wasn't happy with us being apart at different colleges and how she met these really nice people. Turns out one of them had a thing for her and they made out one day. She broke down and told me immediately. She wanted to keep hanging out with him and I was obviously not okay with that.
I visited her to patch things up. Dumb of me to try to salvage it in hindsight. Not long after, she meets another guy in one of her classes who happens to be friends with some of her other friends. I immediately got a bad vibe but I just told myself I was being paranoid and she said nothing would happen. Yeah, apparently they hit it off a little too well.
Long story short she tells me about this one too after I kept asking. I ended up trying to patch things up again. Screw everything about how that relationship ended. Actually, in hindsight, if my relationship hadn't ended so poorly, I wouldn't have met some of the fantastic people in my life today. Now that I think about it, I actually haven't had any contact with her since the breakup.
53. Power in Numbers
I had accused him previously but over and over he turned it around and got upset that I didn't trust him. Finally, after talking to the girl he cheated with on the phone, we called him together and he came clean. He couldn't lie to us both.
54. Getting Handsy
We were having a little party and the way the house was built, I was like two rooms away from her, but I guess she assumed I couldn't still see her. I looked over while making a drink and saw her hand down my friend's pants. Another girl I dated I learned was cheating on me when she just came out and told me. I had no idea or suspicion either. She was basically like, "I've been doing this, I'm sorry, I felt bad when I did it, can we work it out and stay together."
55. Oh, So It’s My Fault!
I was walking down the street minding my own business when a girl suddenly doused me in beer. Turns out, she was the other woman my boyfriend was currently carrying on an affair with, and she was pissed that I was "the girlfriend." When I confronted him about it, all he said was “I needed you that day and you weren't there!” Even worse, the excuse he gave when trying to persuade me not to dump him was that I was the only girl he was ever in public with, the others (there were three of them) were just for fun. I was glad to be rid of that loser.
56. Indecent Proposal
Oh boy, story time, so, I'd been with this girl for two years, I was madly in love with her, I was going to propose. Bought a ring, went to pay her a surprise visit, walked in because I had a key, found her in bed with another man. Threw the box with the ring at her, walked out, drove off, never looked back. Got about 5 miles away, pulled over and broke down crying.
57. Turkey Dump
I was living with a guy, he goes home for Thanksgiving and said he would be back the following Monday...Didn't come back until after New Years', and he kept making excuses as to why he was staying longer. Finally he returns, and we spend 3 days together before he breaks up with me and tells me he's moving to another state.
I was pretty upset, but overall I was honestly calm about the situation and knew it wouldn't work out long-term with him that far away. He leaves to go get something from the store, and my cousin calls (they are from the same town, I met him through her). She asked why I sounded upset. I told her he was in town and that we had just broken up.
She says, "...uhhh....what is he doing there? He told everyone here that you broke up before Thanksgiving. He's been sleeping around with at least 2 girls that I know of." He came back happy as a clam, having no clue I had found out. Kicked him out in the rain at 10pm at night. Left his TV out on the curb.
58. That's Not in the Job Description
It was the night of her company Christmas party. I had to stay home and babysit our five-year-old son (Grandma was supposed to, but she fell and was in the hospital with a broken hip.) I figured my wife would go and then come home early. Turns out, she was planning to stay the night at a hotel so "she could drink and not worry about driving."
I woke up about 3 am just knowing something was wrong (never happened before) and checked "Find My Phone" to see where she was. She was with her boss at his apartment. Pretty much sucked.
59. Five’s a Crowd
"I completely blacked out and didn't know what I was doing!" This was his excuse for having intimate relations with five 13-15-year-olds in a youth center. (He was nearly 18). We lived in a pretty underprivileged area where teen pregnancy isn't uncommon. I'm pretty sure I dodged a bullet or maybe five when I finally dumped him.
60. Three's a Crowd
I drove by his house on my way to work and saw them making out. Got through my day (barely) and called him. Asked him how his night was, got an, "okay, me and T (male bff) got a lot done." (His excuse for not being with me the night before.) "Oh, who was the girl this morning?" "That was J, she stopped by to pick something up, she's just a friend."
"Really? Weird, I don't kiss my friends like that." "It's not what you think..." This went on for a while. I really just wanted him to admit he'd cheated. He never did...Even better, a few days later the girl called me and was calling me all sorts of lovely names because she thought she was the only one in his life.
A couple of hours later (after I'd hung up on her), she called with the intent of having a threesome. I started laughing, and then I hung up. Got a few more calls from her (thanks ex for giving her my phone number, that was sweet of you!) over the next month or so threatening me.
61. Is the Excuse Any Better Than the Crime?
Found a condom clearly used for sex. He ended up blaming it on his mother, who didn't live there. Happy to call that jerk an ex.
62. Don’t Read on a Full Stomach
We had just upgraded phones. I'm not even completely sure why, but shortly after the iPad did some sort of sync or acknowledgment since we had a new device on the same account. Didn't think much of it, but then all these new text messages load up. Wasn't expecting to see and read all that after dinnertime.
63. Keeping Your Options Open
She had a number of alternate Facebook pages under pseudonyms. One day, one of them showed up on my "suggested friends," and I said, "Hey, this girl looks a lot like SO." So, I looked at it. Sure enough, it was her, and she had an active relationship going on with someone else. I later found two more of these pages.
64. Model Citizen
I was dating a girl who was a model, and she used to fly to different parts of the country for photo shoots (typically LA and NYC). One trip she said that the director of the shoot won't allow phones on his set, and then she ignored me for 4 days. When I asked her about it and confronted her, she somehow convinced me I was the crazy one.
Fast forward a month, and her and I are back to normal, Christmas rolls around and I get her a really expensive diamond necklace. Fast forward about three months after that, and she gives me my birthday gift...A picture album of her (professional pictures) and says, "remember that photo shoot I couldn't answer the phone? These are the pictures from that photo shoot! Don't you feel like an idiot?"
For a split second I kind of did feel like an idiot, until I looked at a couple of the photos closer and realized that the necklace I bought her was dangling around her neck. I pointed it out to her and she couldn't come up with anything, so I left her place. She called me the next day and admitted she was cheating on me in New York that one week, and that was all I needed to never speak to her again.
65. Special Delivery
I received a letter in the mail from a college I never went to. Weird....Inside, I found the entire texting history between my now ex-husband and his lover. I have determined that the sender was most likely the lover herself or her scorned husband (who was a local police officer.) Added bonus: At the time, I was 7 months pregnant.
66. You’ve Got a Friend in Me
My girlfriend was contacting my friend a lot, and when I found out that it had led somewhere and confronted him on it, word for word, he said he “didn't want to be rude to her” by turning her advances down. Rude to her?? What about me, jerk???!!!
67. The One That Went Away
My ex-fiancee had both an iPhone and a Macbook. If you know anything about iMessage, this means that he can send and receive texts from his laptop. I was using his laptop for homework (with his permission) while he was at work. He got a text message from his ex, who he talked with on a regular basis. I was uncomfortable with her since she was "the one that got away," but she was married and he insisted he just thought of her as a good friend.
I chose to believe and trust my then-fiancee. But the text she sent him that day seemed strange, just randomly saying, "Just texting to say I love you" or something like that, and it just popped up in the corner for me to read. I opened the messages. Found hours of sexting messages. Hours. He'd been sexting her that morning even, when I had slept next to him all night and we'd cuddled and kissed goodbye when he went to work. I wasn't home when he returned.
68. Regrets? I Have a Few
She left our two-year relationship for this guy. Then I start getting messages from him. And I was MAD. I take my love very seriously I guess. So I keep getting Facebook messages, and then I check his Facebook. The account only has two friends, no pictures, and is four days old. Turns out, he IMMEDIATELY left her when she left me for him. But she wanted ME to crawl back to her? So she made a fake account to make me jealous. I legitimately stopped breathing from how hard I laughed.
69. Always Put the Seat Down
Came home from working a double shift and found the toilet seat up. Either my wife didn't pee for 20 hours straight or there had been another man in my house. I suspected it was her "gay" friend from work. I also knew that said friend was trying to sell his house, so I called the real estate agent and asked the see his place.
Right inside the front door, I recognized one of her jackets hanging in the mud room. Proceeded to the living room and bam...right on the mantel was a picture of my wife and this guy. Right there. We divorced shortly after. She ended up marrying this guy...then cheated on him...and now they are divorced. Didn't feel bad for him at all.
70. Well That Escalated Quickly...
I caught my ex cheating when we were both standing in the examining room, getting his "UTI treatment." Doc came in and said gonorrhea. He lied for a whole 2-3 months I imagine. Even lied about how he got it, tried convincing me he accidentally swiped his genitals in some mystery fluids in a gas station toilet (what in the world...).
When he realized I wasn't that stupid, he tried to drink random bottles on the doctor's shelf. He started hitting himself. He fell on his knees sobbing and tried grabbing my hands and begging for me not to leave. He threatened murder-suicide that entire night, and assaulted me for close to nine hours when I was trying to pack my bags to leave. He choked me in the driveway. I just spoke at his sentencing this Thursday. He is a convicted felon now. I hope he's grown from this.
71. Raising the Heat
I live in the Phoenix metro. During the summer you'd have to be daft to go outside for an extended period of time when it is over 100 degrees. When my ex was cheating, she'd go outside and talk to her "friend" on her cell. In July. Actually, that's not terribly subtle, now that I think of it.
72. Seven Mistakes
One day, he came over to propose. He had to work that night (he was a cop) and said that he would be back to pick my mom and I up to go have brunch with him and his parents to give them the good news the next day. Then we would pick up my ring. Later that night, he didn't call me during his dinner break. I got this funny feeling, so I called him.
Some other guy picked up and there was a lot of background noise, like there was a party. "Hello?" "Whose phone is this?" "Um, my boyfriend CWAD. Who is this?" "I just found it on this end table." "Can I speak to CWAD, please?" "Yo, is there a CWAD here?! (Background voices) yeah, girl, CWAD's upstairs with his girlfriend."
"With who?" "Yeah, I don't really know him. He's the (describes CWAD) guy right? But this is his girlfriend's place I think. Let me ask my girlfriend (voices). Oh wait, yeah I wasn't supposed to say anything because CWAD has another girlfriend and she's pregnant, but I'm really drunk right now hahaha" "Yeah, I'm not pregnant..." "Oh shoot, sorry about the baby. You seem cool though. You should come over" "Yeah I'm gonna pass on that, so bye."
I sent a few texts that night with, "Yeah, spoke to that guy. We have to talk when you get off." He came home, and it all came out: he had cheated on me with seven different women over the years. In his explanation, they were seven "mistakes" that meant "I love you because I always come back to you. They tempt me for a while, but you have me forever." I kicked him to the curb.
He spent the next four months calling, emailing, showing up at my job, but I wasn't taking him back. When his new girlfriend called me to tell me she knew where I lived and she would come up with false charges to throw me in jail if I didn't stay away from her man, that's when I reported both of them. CWAD called me once after that, but I didn't pick up.
73. Plot Twist
It happened to a friend of mine. We were all on vacation (about seven friends) and everybody was drinking. We were the only two who didn’t. He managed to snag his girlfriend's phone while she was passed out and pulled me to the side. He said, "she's cheating on me, some guy named Joey has been texting her and meeting her after work for sex every day." We ended up searching for names and mutual friends via Facebook. Turned out Joey was a girl.
74. Textually Challenged
We used to text all the time when we weren't together, so much it would actually annoy me. When we went to university, we said we'd text less for a week so we could meet new people and not spend our time on the phone. When we started texting again, she took ages to respond...Or didn't. Eventually we met up and we stayed at hers and watched TV together and cooked, but something was off.
We didn't play fight like we always did, we didn't make the jokes we usually did, and she didn't use the nicknames we had. We never called each other by our real names, ever. Then she got a text and picked up her phone straight away and began to reply. That was it. I knew those eyes, I knew that smile, they used to be mine. They weren't anymore.
75. If He Can Make It There, He Can Make It Anywhere
He went to NYC on a business trip and his phone was constantly going straight to voicemail whenever I called. When I finally got in touch with him he said that he was having a hard time getting a signal... in midtown Manhattan. So I called his office and asked for him and they were totally confused. It turns out he was in another state visiting someone he met on the internet.
78. Getting Emotional
I caught her holding hands with another man, someone from her work, in the booth at Logan's. Our kids were with them. Emotional cheating is still cheating.
79. Surprise!
I walked in on my girlfriend with another guy while trying to surprise her with our "happy 6 months" celebration and presents. Man, it hurt to walk in on them sleeping together in front of me. I broke his nose against the bed post and made her leave her house without clothes on.
80. Near Death Experience
My buddy’s dad was diagnosed with colon cancer. He starts going to chemo and his wife starts going out with some other guy. His sister found out his mom was cheating on his dad, so she told my buddy and he sat his dad down and talked to him. Dad confronts cheating mom and she says, “my fortune teller told me that the best way to get over your death would be to start something new with someone else.”
Now mind you, his dad’s not dead, or really even close to death. The cancer is responding well to chemo, and he’s been slowly getting better. She literally tried justifying cheating on him because he might die...She no longer lives in the house and, to the best of my knowledge, has been ex-communicated from the entire family.
81. Put a Ring on It
I called her at work and their receptionist asked, "Is this her boyfriend, Dave?" "No... it's her fiancé." I'd had suspicions for a few months before that but this was the clincher.
83. One Heck of a Love Triangle
I worked with two guys once—let’s call them A and B. One was married and his wife invited my wife to start going out with her for ladies’ night. I encouraged my wife to go since she almost never got out of the house. My wife came home and I could tell something was wrong. Turns out Friend A's wife was picking up guys on these ladies’ nights—and encouraged my wife to do the same.
So the next day at work I consulted Friend B, who was living with Friend A and his wife at the time, asking his advice on what I should do. Should I tell A or just stay out of it or what? B started going off about A's wife, saying she was a slut, didn't deserve to be married to him, all kinds of nasty things. In the end, he said I should just keep it to myself.
So, a couple of weeks went by, my wife and A's wife kept going out and she kept cheating and I kept consulting B. My wife and I would get together with A and his wife every now and then, and A's wife would drop comments about people keeping their mouth shut, etc. Finally, it all came to a head one fateful day.
One day at work, B finally confessed to A that he'd been sleeping with A's wife and he was going to run off with her...and I finally understood why B was always so upset about what A's wife was doing. He was pissed that the woman that was cheating on her husband to be with him was cheating on HIM too. That all happened 30 years ago. Last I knew—about 10 years ago—A and his wife were still married.
83. Classic
I Came home early from work and walked in on it. Yep, that's about as cliche as it gets, but there you go. Funny thing is, I had wanted an open relationship, but he said that he couldn't deal with that. Turns out he was just selfish.
84. Bon Appetit
I had been going through a rough patch with my GF at the time. We both worked at the same large chain grocery store and a lot of co-workers knew we were dating. One of the girls comes up to me when I'm closing and asks "are you still dating so-and-so? Because I just saw her in a coffee shop parking lot making out with some guy."
I trusted this source, and she was very upset when she found out she had given me very hurtful news. Being an evil man, I began to plan my revenge. So I planned a romantic getaway a hour and a half from home. We go to a nice restaurant, and it was actually a good time.
At the end of the meal, I excuse myself to use the bathroom, I have a long drive ahead of me. I go up to our waiter and ask him to tell her that I know. Give him a $20 as a tip. After the bathroom, I snuck out of the place, got in my car, and just drove home without her. Her friend had to drive up, pay for the meal (she was dead broke), and drive her home. We haven't talked since. Her friend told me I went a bit too far.
85. I Don’t Think, Therefore I Am Not
My college roommate cheated on his girlfriend and felt awful about it in the aftermath, to the point where it made him realize how much he actually loved his girlfriend. He then began to cheat a few times a semester, specifically to recreate that feeling. He started to rationalize that, "you need to cheat to be able to stay faithful."
86. Do You Really Want to Know?
She left her diary lying around. Which is to say, in her unguarded bookshelf. I was hanging at her place while she was in class and I read a few of the most recent entries. Fully knowing I was opening a Pandora's Box of secrets better left closed as we had been growing more distant lately. Big surprise, she wrote about falling for the other guy and how she didn't know how to leave me.
She then mentioned how the sex was much better with me and how he was sort of a dead fish. Which initially made me feel a bit better until I read that she had gone out shopping for Valentine’s day gifts and had apparently gone all out on him but hit the clearance racks for me. Gifts aren't important to me, but that deep forethought it took to make that sort of decision really irked me.
So... I waited for her to get home, and we had the MOST intense angry intimacy I've ever had in my life. I knew it was going to be the last time I'd ever get to enjoy her body, so I just went to town. The tough bit is that she was certainly enjoying it more than me without the weight of impending heartache on her mind.
It got so intense someone knocked on the door to make sure everything was alright, to which she breathlessly replied "Ooooh yeah!" which is still a source of pride for me, honestly. However, I'll never forget that feeling after, staring up at the ceiling and listening to her breathing heavy still and just knowing.
87. Go Howl About It to Someone Who Cares…
When I found out my boyfriend was cheating on me, his response was unbelievable: "I'm a wolf." No, really. He said this and meant it. This delusional guy started to think he was a wolf, and that wolves are like Zeus, who cheated a lot. So because he's a wolf, he can get away with cheating? And he thinks I’m just gonna say, “oh, okay!” Nah. Not gonna slide, dude.
88. What Goes Around Comes Around
He was my SO for five years, going on six. It was New Year’s 2014. When everything was going well, he suddenly asked for “space.” I asked if he wanted a day or a week. He said he wanted a month. I gave him that. As in zero bothering. February came. We met and he called it quits and though it saddened me, it gave me time to improve on myself and reflect.
It was mid-March, and just when I was able to get my life back together, he contacted me again. He told me he wanted me back. I was elated and hopeful. He said that there is just one condition that he wanted to compromise on to show that "I" had changed—and that is to limit my questions of his whereabouts and limit my calls to him to just his lunch time.
Realizing that I might have gone overboard with calls and questions when I was with him—he was on a night shift in a particularly shady environment, and it didn't help that I was a worrywart—I agreed. But there was something in my gut that tells me something doesn't seem fair. Since then, I fought the urge to even simply ask him how his day was, or make any leisurely talk with him just to comply and prove to myself and to him that I don't have trust issues—because if I don't, he'll call it out on me.
Then, in November of that year, his friend from his workplace died. I was scared because I hadn't heard from him for almost 2 days during the funeral, and I am worried that he might be devastated. My worry turned to anger when he just said that he placed his phone on silent mode, spent the night with his mates in the funeral, and told me "I have to ignore you since the funeral was the only time I can talk to my workplace friends and you disturb me a lot."
I apologized for my anger and just let him be. I still have to prove to him that I am not bothersome. We became okay afterward. It wasn't a big fight, but I was quite offended by what he just said. I was just worried because it was not typical of him to not inform me of his whereabouts. Three weeks after the funeral, he just dropped the "I'm breaking up with you for good." No warnings.
I was beyond devastated. Fast forward 2015, he came back one midnight (!) asking for me to leave my bf (now husband), crying and regretting that he dismissed all my concern and my thoughtfulness when we were together. Funny thing is, he had a GF when he begged me to get back together. And that GF is the one who he cheated on me with.
He told me that his GF hated it when he gets concerned, thoughtful, or sweet and that he misses me, who appreciated all that. I dismissed him with, "You'll find yourself a good woman eventually." People, remember that sufficient proximity and proper communication are indispensable in a good relationship. If your SO keeps on asking for too much SPACE, s/he might as well be on the next rocketship out of your life.
89. Wardrobe Malfunction
Found underwear that didn't belong to me, despite him desperately trying to convince me that they were mine.
90. Deployed Outta There
When he was going on deployment, I got that horrible feeling that something was going on. I looked at the phone bill details and found many calls to a phone number that wasn't our friends. With dread, I called that number. The woman who answered was aghast because he told her he was single. (Funny thing about that call, this was not the first time she had been seeing a man that she didn't know was married. She told me that during our conversation. It was surreal.)
He filed for divorce during the deployment and was trying to get it pushed through as quickly as possible. He must have told that new one that he was divorced. Our kids were 3 years old and 1 year old at the time. It was devastating to me, and I was so clueless back then. Looking back, I realized that the cheating had been going on for a couple of years.
I don't know why he didn't break it off with me earlier or why he agreed to try for another child when he was seeing other people. It took a while to get beyond the pain and betrayal. I'm a much happier person now than I was then, and more well-rested now that the kids are older.
91. Holden Would Be Proud
My best friend lived in the family's old vacation trailer behind his house (back in the 90s). I arrived with a twelve-pack, opened the door and there was my girlfriend. She was standing full frontal (not a stitch on) and he was in his boxers. Later he told me "Nothing happened." JD Salinger had a term for that kind of guy, it was... PHONY.
92. Over the Hill
My ex-wife and I went up to Big Bear to go snowboarding and spend some time together. We were having issues and I thought to be fun to get away and do something fun together. Let's just say it did not go well. She said she grew up snowboarding, but she never made it down a hill and had a terrible time. So we went back to the cabin and she was pretty much just on her phone, not talking to me.
We make it back and she says she needs to just shower and be alone for a bit. She goes off and I just hang in the den. She left her phone in her purse and it just kept buzzing, so I checked it out because what if someone was trying to reach us or something? I open it up to read a full conversation between her and this guy. It wasn't good.
I read how that day’s texts started and they started really early in the morning. "Hope you're doing ok up there." She said, "We'll see, doubt it. He's trying too hard. He should just know it really doesn't matter. Wish I was up here with you instead." Just the worst stuff. I was pretty devastated and really didn't know what to do.
I knew I didn't want to fight because I realized she wasn't worth fighting for. Grabbed my bag and drove back to San Diego. I took her phone with me, so I could text him and tell him, "We're coming home early, let's meet." I ended up inviting him to a coffee shop and waited for him to show up. When he walked through the door, he saw me immediately and kind of stopped.
I waved him over and wasn't too far from the door, so I told him we need to talk. He comes over and already front loads with the "It's not what you think," blah blah blah speech. I told him that if he wants her, he can take his sorry ass to Big Bear and go get her. Because I was leaving and we're through. See you when we sign the papers. And I left.
Second worst day of my life but I'm glad it happened. Met my lady three years later and we've been together for four years, now engaged. I don't know if you asked this because you yourself are going through this and need comfort and to know what to do. But I hope this is just a hypothetical question and if not, there are better partners out there for us. You just need to let life introduce you to them.
93. Fly Me to the Moon
Just got on a flight in London headed to Vegas. Sitting next to my GF, and she wants to show me something she has planned for the trip, so gets out her phone. It opens to the Messages and shows a chat with a guy (I know him) saying how much she is going to miss him and how she doesn't want to go away with me anyway. The doors close on the plane and that was a really fun 10-11hrs...
94. Second Time’s the Charm
He rang my friend, who I happened to be with at the time, to tell her he'd been sleeping with his ex and asked what should he do. Her not knowing what to do, she put him on speaker and asked him to repeat. Then the yelling started.
95. Savage
My ex, many moons ago, was an idiot. She KNEW that I had many friends that lived in the same neighborhood as her ex that she had left a couple months before dating me. She always told me she was going over to a female friend's house to study, and I had no reason not to believe her. Til one day she wouldn't answer a single text.
Now, I'm not the kind of guy to text a billion times. I'll text you, then if you don't reply, MAAAYYBE I'll text you 2-3 hours later to make sure you got my last message, and if you still don't answer, then, "Meh," I'll talk to you when you feel like you want to talk. So anyway, I'm at my friend’s house later that night having not gotten a reply from her since maybe 12 hours ago.
Me and the group of friends decide to go outside in his backyard to make a pit fire, when I notice her car in the driveway of the house behind us. I didn't know it was her ex's house but it was the waaaaaay wrong neighborhood for her girlfriend’s house. I call her sister up and say "Where is your sister," and she says "Oh, she's at [the girl’s house]."
"Well, I'm going nuts then because I'm looking at her car right now and this isn't her friend’s neighborhood." Her response to that was "Uh..." So I hang up and ask my friend who lives in the house we were all hanging out at, who owns the house behind him. "Oh that's [her ex bf's name]'s house." I called her phone to find it was off.
So I just chilled the rest of my time there, and payed it no more attention, no sense in worrying at this point—it's a done deal. About two hours later I get a call from her saying the phone was on silent for "Study purposes" and asking if I wanted to come over. "Sure," I told her. I arrive at the house a little bit after and she hops in the car.
As soon as she shuts the door I ask "How was studying with your friend?" and she gives me some BS answer as if I didn't know she wasn’t there. After she's done spewing her lie I say "Weird. Must have been a long walk from [ex bf's] house." I made sure to look at her face as I said it so that I could see any expression. She knew I knew but wouldn't let it go. It will go quicker if I just give you the dialogue:
"We were just talking things out"
"Why would it be ok to just go over there to do that if you have a boyfriend? Talk things out? What needs to be talked out?"
"We've been friends for a very long time before dating. I can't just stop talking to him."
"So to get around that, you feel it's logical to lie to me about going to a friend’s house? It's 11pm, you've been 'talking it out' since 10am. I've tried getting a hold of you a couple times too." Silence for a bit..."So what did you guys do?" She wouldn't answer or look at me. I told her to get out of the car and just pulled off. She broke up with him the first time because he was physically abusive and seemed to not really want to do anything with his life.
About a year after I drove off, she calls me asking if we could try to make it work again and if I'd like to get together over dinner. So I said "yes" and arranged a date at a fairly upscale place for Saturday at 8 pm. Told her the dress code and all, since it was a snazzy joint. I'm not sure how long she sat there, because I. Didn't. Go.
96. Life Lesson: Power Trips Always Lead to Writing on Whiteboards
I stopped by his house to surprise him. His bedroom window was open and she was very loud. I tried the front door and it wasn't locked so I let his dogs in the house (because it would piss him off) and sat on the couch for a few minutes thinking about how much power I had. How I could burst in and do anything. I just wrote goodbye on his whiteboard and left.
97. The Long Goodbye
We were engaged, I had miscarried two weeks earlier, as he was driving me to the bus station so I could get a bus home (moved to a different city for him), the girl called to say she was almost done moving her stuff in, and could she just toss what he didn't give me time to pack?
98. Dirty Deeds
The actual discovery occurred when I looked at his texts and discovered their messages to one another. The following day I confronted him, and although he initially tried to deny it, he eventually spilled the truth. What's perhaps more interesting was the lead-up to my checking his phone. A month or so previous, he told me that he was going out with a lady friend for a drive.
I trusted it was platonic at the time. Later, there was a hair in our bathroom that didn't belong to me, so I made a passing remark about her having to come in to use the washroom at some point. What was strange is that he denied she had done so, even though that would have been a perfectly plausible and totally not suspicious reason for it to have been there.
I rationalized that it had fallen off his clothes at some point. Following that event, he called me one day in a panic that this lady friend's ex had seen them together and immediately flew into a jealous rage. Since the ex threatened to get in touch with me, my then-bf rushed home to warn me about the incoming message and that it was a lie.
I believed him, and since the other man made me uncomfortable when I met him before, I blocked his message. Before leaving for a trip I was going on without him, he started crying and said that this was the end, even though we had been working on improving our relationship and things had been okay lately, I thought.
Upon my return, he acted strangely. The first thing I noticed was that he would start leaving the room to take calls on his phone, despite never having done that before, ever. He also took his phone with him into the bathroom while he showered which, again, was unlike him. I even came home to find him mid-conversation, and heard him say "I'll call you back" in a hushed tone before immediately ending the call and dodging through the kitchen to avoid me.
Finally, when cleaning up his dirty laundry, I found a ring in his pocket. Don't know if it was hers; it wasn't fancy by any means, but it certainly belonged to a woman. The culmination of these events made me paranoid, torn between being a good, non-snooping girlfriend and wanting to get to the bottom of things.
He had a strong personality and a heck of a temper, so I didn't think asking him would have yielded honest results. I was able to get ahold of his phone and leaf through his texts, and that provided tangible proof. Had I not found those though, I would have broken up with him anyway. And that, friends, is the story of how I went from trusting men in a romantic context, to not being able to trust myself as a judge of character.
99. Dr. Matt and Mr. Matty
After I found out he cheated on me, my ex told me: "You don't like going to clubs, so I didn't want you to feel bad about me going. So I just went in secret—and I can't control what happens at the club! Babe, when I'm with you I'm Matt, but sometimes I just have to let Matty out. Matty is crazy. I have to let him be free at the club so that Matt can be a good boyfriend to you the rest of the time.”
100. CSI: Cheating Scene Investigation
My story is like something out of Black Mirror: Girlfriend of six years went out of town with a couple of her girlfriends for a weekend. I decided to check her Facebook profile to see if she posted any new pics or whatever and noticed that this one guy liked almost every status she posted. He never commented.
I was just curious about who he was because she never mentioned him. His profile was mostly private, but he had a couple pictures and statuses that I could view. Just figured it was a classmate or something (she's in law school) until I scrolled upon a picture that stood out: It was a pic of his parked car that a hit and run driver smacked into overnight while street parked.
I almost kept scrolling when something hit me—the background of picture gave me a weird feeling. His car was parked on the street that I recognized because of the brick roads that we have downtown. Upon closer inspection, the reason I recognized it was because it was right outside my girlfriend's house. When she got back I talked to her about it.
Of course, she at first came up with a BS story about how some friends from school crashed at her place because she lives near downtown and they couldn't drive. I'm not an idiot though because I know she'd tell me if somebody hit her friend's car outside her house. Eventually she broke down and confessed she'd been cheating for a year. It turned my life inside out.
We had plans to move in a week after I found out and I was going to propose on our anniversary a few weeks after that. I got out of the relationship, even though she is still begging to this day for forgiveness... It's just so weird because of the coincidence I came across this pic, that the pic was even public, and the fact that if the picture was taken a foot closer to the damage, I'd have never known. I just got such a weird feeling from the small amount details I could make out in the background.
101. Who Are You Gonna Believe, Me Or Your Own Eyes?
Go to the gym, no headphones! That’s cool, house is five minutes away. Pull up in front of my house and see work buddie’s car out front. Walk in house through open garage. Son coloring at kitchen table. Ask him “Hey bud, where’s your mom?” He points at the stairs. Walk to stairs to hear moans and movement. Up to this point I had suspected the worst but never had proof. Knew I had to go look and catch her or she would say I was overreacting and tell me it wasn’t what I thought.
Walk upstairs and hear them in the spare bedroom. Walk in the room and say “well this is awkward.” They freak out and try to grab clothes and tell me nothing is happening. I walk out to my car and have ex-buddy chase me out and tell me to hit him. I go to my command (I’m in the military) the next day. Report him and have the command force him to call his wife that day and let her know. I am now divorced and much happier!
102. Does the End Justify the Means?
My ex-wife, the mother of my three kids: “My boss offered me a higher position in his new company if I slept with him. I had no choice!”
103. Hunting for Problems
Brother of mine caught his wife cheating. Her phone would always be going off and she would hide it. He got curious, looked into it, and found some guy had been texting her for a few months. She said she was going to stay home because she had to catch up on homework over the weekend. My brother and I went on our hunting trip and he told me about it.
We never left the city, we went to my house and stayed there till it got dark, then drove back to his neighborhood in my neighbor’s car. She sent him a picture of her at home saying she was going to go to bed early that night. Well, we snuck close to the house after a car parked down the street and a guy walked to the house and let himself in.
My brother was fuming at this point and wanted to beat the crap out of the guy. I settled him down and told him to think about the long run. We snuck up to the house and using the night vision camera got video of them bumping uglies in the living room. My brother wanted to confront this guy at this point so... I did something messed up and called the cops. I said I heard a lot of yelling from the house and asked if they could go check. It kept my brother from messing with the dude (a coworker of hers).
Cops show up, take statements. We leave and the next day he pulls her iMessages off the email account and talks to a lawyer. We give the lawyer the messages and when we show up five days later from our "hunting trip," he calls her and says he got something wild and wants her to come out and see it.
When she comes out he gives her divorce papers and kicks her out of the house. She had the police do a civil stand by while she got her stuff a few days later. House was his before they got married so all she got to keep was some stuff they bought together and her car. No kids and the prenup nullified the alimony she could have gotten as he made way more money than her.
The guy she was sleeping with had a record. We saw her a few months later, she tried talking to my wife and said she missed my brother and she was sorry, the guy and her broke up shortly after the divorce.
104. Cheaters Never Prosper
I knew my ex wife was cheating but didn’t tell her that I knew. Took her out to dinner and I casually asked questions about who she had been spending time with while I was at sea, she barely worked so she had to spend her time doing something. She failed to mention the guy that had been staying at my house for nearly 2 months, the guy she had to call the cops on just to get to leave because I was coming home in 2 days...soooo I slid her a copy of the police report that was filed for the incident and watched as she crumbled over the fact she had been caught, and I didn’t have to say a word.
105. Pregnant Disaster
I was pregnant with my oldest daughter and had extreme pain one day, so I came home early from work. When I get home I see two purses that I knew weren't mine sitting on the stand. I head to my room to see if my then boyfriend could explain the purses; I'm hearing noises coming from our room. I opened the door to peek in and he is having a threesome. I close the door and just go back into the living room. I was shocked.
I was supposed to be on bedrest, but I was the only one who had a job, so I was going to school and working while he got to stay home all day. I was livid, but what was scary is that I was so furious that I remained calm. I went into the living room, sat on the couch and waited for them to come out; when they finally did I asked them if they had fun? I told them they needed to get out of my apartment.
He tried to talk to me, but I told him he needed to get out. I calmly packed off of his stuff up, had a friend come over because I couldn't do heavy lifting being 7 months pregnant and dropped his stuff off at his parents' house that night. It's still shocking to me that I remained so calm being that angry.
