10 Things On Your Body That Are Proof Of Evolution

Richard Dawkins once said, "The theory of evolution by cumulative natural selection is the only theory we know of that is in principle capable of explaining the existence of organized complexity." Which is a complicated (but organized!) way to put it. What he means is: the theory of evolution helps us to understand the structure of life on Earth. In the pursuit of scientific knowledge, that's an incredibly valuable thing.

But just because we descended from apes, doesn't mean it's not hard to believe. Who hasn't been to a zoo, or watched an episode of Planet Earth, and thought, "Please... I'm smarter than that". It's not easy to watch a monkey drink pee and believe we're all part of one, wide family tree. Besides, doesn't that make us a bit less special?

Well, the other way of looking at it is that evolution gives an incredibly intricate and fascinating way of looking at the world around us. Not only that, but it can also help to root you in the history of your own body. Everything from your teeth, to your appendix, to your own two hands (which closely resemble a whale's fin-bones) is part of a story that's been going on millions and millions of years.

We hope this video has given you some new insight into that incredible piece of human knowledge.
