The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Changed Fire Safety

In 1911, a fire tore through New York City's Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, killing 146 workers. Locked exits and inadequate escape routes turned the upper floors into a trap. The tragedy sparked enormous public outrage and helped drive tougher rules involving unlocked exits, evacuation routes, sprinklers, alarms, and fire inspections.

Fire Doors Became More Than Heavy Decorations
