I still don’t know why I believed this—or why it took me so long to realize how dumb it was. Either way, I was traumatized for months after my parents told me the truth.
For parents, lies can be easier than explaining the harsh truth. But things get complicated when the kid believes the lie, sometimes for years afterward!
