Bone-Chilling Moments We’ll Never Be Able To Explain

No matter how safe we may feel in our day to day lives, the world is a strange and frightening place. Things may seem fine, but we never truly know what lurks around the corner. Don’t believe it? Then read these stories from people who’ve been through utterly eerie experiences and lived to tell the tale. From creepiness to full-on horror, these inexplicable moments will never be forgotten by the people who lived through them—not now, not ever.

Moments We Can't Explain

1. Calling From Beyond the Grave

My sister died in a car accident years ago. Shortly after it happened, I was at home for lunch on a work day when the phone rang. It was someone asking for my sister, and I felt a chill run down my spine. The thing was, everyone we knew was aware of her passing, so who could possibly be asking for her? The man on the other end of the line identified himself as "Tom." I explained the situation, and the call ended. But a couple of days later, I mentioned the call to my sister’s best friend. She went white as sheet, and her response chilled me to the bone.

She told me that "Tom" had also been killed in an auto accident weeks ago, so he couldn't have called.

2. New Mummy

My little girl is three. We've always had creepy incidents, but a few weeks back things hit on a whole new level. She kept pointing near the bedroom window and talking about the boy with no eyes. She said he was crying because he wanted me to be his mum.

3. This Guy Probably Didn’t Get Back to Sleep Any Time Soon...

Heard my dog walking around at midnight, you know, nails hitting the floor. Got annoyed that he was waltzing all over the place, and I couldn't sleep, so I shouted "freaking stop with your stuff already" from my bed. Sounds stopped. Realized a moment later that he's been dead for a year and there's no one else supposed to be in the house.

Ran around with my baseball bat in my hand for 10 minutes but couldn't find anything... or anyone...

4. Umm, What??

Just me and my 2 year old son at home. Was changing his clothes when he looks at me and says: "Why don't you say hi to that man?"

5. Is There an Exorcist in the House?

Actually experienced this. I was 3 or 4 years old at our family's summer cabin when I got extremely sick out of nowhere. My temperature started spiking and no one knew what was wrong. Apparently I was sweating out puddles and my family was getting ready to take me to the hospital when my uncle said he wanted to try something. I was laying on the couch crying when he started to pray over me for a couple minutes. The second he put his hands on me after the prayer, my family says I shot up to a sitting position, flat as a board, and puked everywhere. Temperature started to go down and they never took me to the hospital. Still just weirds me the heck out, 20-something years later.

6. You Wanna Hang Man

My son stared at the corner and said, “Why is that man watching us? And why does his head like this?” Then he turned his head at a sharp angle, similar to how a hanging victim would look.

7. You Can Never Unread This One

About 2 years ago, I was around 24, I used to go into this gas station every morning before work to get coffee and cigarettes. I went in one morning, it was around 4 a.m. and I was the only customer there. The cashier was a young white male that I had seen several times before, but this gas station seemed to have a high turnover rate because it seemed like there would be a new employee I had never seen before working there at least once a week.

Anyway, I walked into the store and went straight to the left and fixed my coffee. After that, I walked around to the next aisle and grabbed a pack of gum and then went up to the cash register. I sat the coffee and the gum on the counter and the guy just stood there staring at me for like 10 seconds. It was really awkward and at first I couldn't think of anything to say. After like those 10 seconds I told him that I also needed a pack of cigarettes. Right after I finished speaking, he backed up a few feet and he had his private part in his hand and it was pouring blood.

I freaked out and ran out of the store, I didn't know what to do to help him. I ran to my car and called the police and told them to send an ambulance. Like I said, I was freaked out and didn't know what to do and was hoping with an ambulance on the way he would be alright. I realized if I didn't hurry I was going to be late for work so I decided there wasn't anything else I could do so I left.

I went through the whole day hoping he was alright and wondering what else I could have done. Later that day when I got off I figured I would stop at the gas station and ask whoever was working there at the time if they knew how he was doing, but believe it or not, that gas station this happened at that morning, and that I had been going into every day for over a year wasn't even there.

Like there was nothing there on that side of the highway, just trees. I felt like something snapped in my mind and I still 2 years later feel like something isn't right with me. I went home and called my family and friends of mine and none of them remember a gas station ever being there. After that I never told anyone else or brought it up to anyone because I'm scared they will think I'm crazy. Nothing else weird has happened to me since then but I know I must be insane, I feel like my whole life is a lie.

8. A Tele-Phony Claim

I got a very creepy phone call once. A distraught woman called me up one day demanding to know where her son was, saying he’s been missing for two weeks. I had no idea who she was and I certainly didn't know her son. She was calling from a state that I have never even visited. I asked her how she got my number and she said that she found it written on a piece of paper, along with my name, in her son's desk.

Needless to say, I was creeped out. I really didn't think that I could help her in any way, so I politely ended the conversation. I never heard from the woman again and even though I googled around for a missing kid in the area, I couldn't find anything.

9. Snail Mail to the Extreme

There was this abandoned school turned World War I military hospital near my house that my friend and I liked to break into. One day, we were rooting around the third floor and we found an empty envelope on the floor of a closet. It was old, and the address was written in script. It only had a name on it. That name on it was the exact same as my friend’s name, whose name is rather uncommon. We booked it out of there real fast.

10. Blast From the Distant Past

My brother was diagnosed with cancer when he was three. A few days after his diagnosis, I was sitting out in the living room with my parents and he walked out of his room. He said that a man named Tony was floating in the corner of his room, eating peppers, and telling him that he was OK because he was watching over him.

Tony was my dad's grandfather’s name, who died before we were born. Turns out he loved eating peppers. It was really strange, as my dad never really talked about him, especially nothing detailed like eating peppers. My parents freaked out a bit.

11. I Saw You Drop My Gameboy

During a spinal tap procedure, I was put under. While under the anesthetics I had what I can only explain as an out of body experience seeing as how my viewpoint was from above my body looking down on the procedure. I watched the whole thing and saw that the doctor knocked my Game Boy off the tabletop while walking by, batteries ejecting from the fall.

One fell in sight and he picked it up but the other was next to the front left wheel under the bed out of his view…but not mine. I woke up groggy and told him where my other battery was and he was shocked when he found it there. To this day it still weirds me out.

12. Eerie Phone Call

My uncle works for emergency dispatch in my town and he recently told my family of the weirdest call he's ever gotten. He says that he had received a call from a landline one night and when he answered it there was only static on the other end. This happened two more times. Finally, he calls a squad to go check out the address from the caller ID.

When the cops got there and walked into the house they immediately saw that there was a dead body. The person had been dead for five months. The craziest part about it was that there was no electricity or any other utility working. So there is no way they should have been able to get those calls into dispatch. But if they hadn't, who knows how long that person’s body would have stayed there.

13. Secret Admirer

This happened when I was 17. I was walking past the bus stop and there was a car there waiting. As soon as I got there, the man in the car rolled down his window, pulled up to me and said: "Hey, I know you! Let me give you ride!" He was literally the most ordinary looking guy ever, so I thought it was possible I knew him because I met a lot of people in my church. That's the only reason I engaged him.

I told him I didn't need a ride since I was close to home. He kept insisting that I get in his car. He said "Yeah, I know you, you're gonna go join a convent in January." I was weirded out by this because it was true, but I was growing more and more certain I didn't know him. So I asked him where we met and he said: " I met you in the grocery store, you were buying food for your Daddy."

I immediately started walking away and called my mom because I don't have a dad. He got really pissed off and drove away really fast. I never saw him again. I then vaguely start to remember meeting a creep at the grocery store a few months back who was looking at me strangely, but I would have never shared personal information with him so I have no idea how he knew anything about me.

He clearly had been watching/following me for some time and I never noticed. He knew where I was gonna be and waited for me there, and gathered personal information about me without me even slightly recognizing him. He was so desperately insistent upon getting me in his car as quickly as possible. I have no idea who he was, what he wanted from me or whether he's still out there.

14. Leave!

I was stationed in Seoul, South Korea several years ago. I was taking a shower in my room and when I got out, the word "leave" was written in small letters in the fog on the bathroom mirror. I didn't have a roommate because NCOs got their own private rooms. A little freaked out, I decided to do exactly that—leave. I went off post for some Korean BBQ and wandered the city a bit.

I came back a couple hours later to find the barracks evacuated and half burned to the ground. The fire was pinpointed to faulty electrical wiring that caught some insulation on fire inside the walls.

Something knew it was going to happen and to this day, whatever that something was, it didn't want me in the middle of it. I'd gladly thank who or whatever it is if they'd give me the chance but it's been years and I still have no idea.

15. I Dig This One

I was digging in the backyard as a kid and accidentally dug up a voodoo Santeria bottle in a park by a tree. It had a pin doll, note, picture and a bloody-looking liquid in it. I just buried it back and never dug near there again.

16. Photo Comes to Life

This is from a friend who used to work as a security guard. My friend is a night person so he's used to night shifts. Well, anyways, one night he's working to guard a mansion and at 2:22 a door access alarm goes off from the gym room. By usual protocol, he calls 911 and has cops deal with it. The cops, two of them, meet with my friend and head to the gym room.

A short while later, the cops started yelling at my friend how prank calls are a serious offense and he shouldn't waste their time. My friend flabbergasted by the cops' reaction, asks what's wrong and one of the cops says that an old lady told them that she was in the house for a long time. My friend doesn't understand what lady they're talking about since there's no one in that mansion.

The owners left on a cruise for a month or so. They stop to stare at each other in silence and head inside the mansion. My friend swears to me it's true. They go inside and right at the entry hall, you can see the painting of the old lady. The cops turn white and leave. My friend confused by what happened just nopes out of there the moment he finished his shift. Apparently, that was the painting of the current owner's great-grandmother.

17. From Above

My little sister was about three years old and we were getting ready to go to our uncle's house for dinner. She was being really fussy and didn't want to get changed so my dad asks her, "Don't you want to go to uncle Dan's house?" She then responded, saying, "No, I don't like the man in the ceiling." We thought it was an odd thing to say, but didn't give much thought.

A few years later we were helping my uncle sell the house and it came out that someone had died by suicide in the attic back in the 90s.

18. Lost At Sea

This didn’t happen to me directly, but someone once told me about this ship that was found in the middle of the ocean with the entire crew missing. The boat was in seaworthy condition, all the crew's belongings and cargo were untouched, and six months worth of food and water were still on board. None of the crew were ever heard from again. Spooky all around.

19. Don’t Miss the Forest for the Trees

I get insomnia. It was one of those nights and I was sitting out on my back porch at about 4:00 AM, smoking a cigarette. It was one of those eerie nights where there is absolutely no breeze and it's just completely quiet out. We have woods behind our house and, as I was sitting there, I see this person making his way through the trees. I don’t mean just walking around. It looked like he was jumping from tree to tree, at least 30 or 40 feet up in the air.

I was absolutely stunned and just sat there dumbly, too afraid and confused to even get up and run inside the house. This person or thing then stops directly behind my house and looks at me. At this point, it's about 50 feet away and maybe 40 feet up in the air. It pauses for about five seconds staring in my direction.

I'm absolutely certain that it wasn't an animal. Its body was human-shaped and it did not resemble any type of animal I know of. But the way it was moving through the trees definitely was not human. No human could move like that.

Within a few more seconds it was out of sight.

20. Knock Knock!

I was sitting in the living room with my family watching TV. My sister got up to use the bathroom. We heard her yell "Stop!", "You guys are annoying!", "What the heck!"

When she got out of the bathroom, she said "why’d you guys keep banging on the door? You’re so annoying!"

But none of us were banging on the door—we were all seated together on the couch the entire time. We could see the door from the living room and it didn't seem like anything was happening. She said it was really, really loud and the door was shaking.

We were thoroughly spooked.

21. The Woman in White

Saw a woman in a white nightgown walk out of the forest one night while I was house sitting in the middle of nowhere. She walked out of the woods toward the house. She scared the hell out of me. There were no neighbors for miles. I ran upstairs to my girlfriend. We both went downstairs and I saw her walk past one of the windows.

I spent the rest of the night under the covers. The next day I told the homeowners that “I saw something strange.” They replied, “Was it the woman in white?” They told me they have seen that woman for decades, sometimes INSIDE the house. I’m still trying to figure this one out. There has to be some sort of explanation.

22. Drama Already in Progress

One morning my girlfriend and I went to 7/11 to buy bus tickets and right when we were about to pay the cashier, a ratchet looking man barges out of the bathroom covered in blood from head to toe with bloodshot eyes.

He swiftly walks to my side and yells at the cashier shouting, "You can keep this!" As he violently threw a pack of skittles at the counter. The cashier then calls out saying, "Wait-!" But the man ran out of the store. The cashier then shook his head and casually said, "Sorry about that." And everything went back to normal like nothing happened.

I have no idea what the backstory to that was.

23. Ghostly Lullaby

My daughter Madison told me, at around age three, about "Kellum," the man with brown pants and a yellow shirt that played with her. I assumed it was an imaginary friend because... well that's what kids do. Then one day, she starts singing a song I'd never heard before. "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer doooo. I'm half-crazy all for the love of youuuuu," then she'd mumble a few words and pick back up with "a bicycle built for twooo."

I assumed she'd heard it from her babysitter, but when I asked about it, the babysitter tells me she thought my husband and I taught her the song because she didn't know it either. So I asked my daughter where she'd heard the song and she tells me "Kellum taught it to me. He sings it to his baby." Eventually, Kellum faded away.

Fast forward to about five years ago, I'm telling the story to a coworker who recognized the song as an old tune called, "Bicycle Built for Two.” That prompted us to start looking on ancestry.com at my property address history. I start following rabbit holes and found out that in the 40s, a man named Callum Beasley owned the property next to ours. He was the father of five children, youngest died at age three. Her name was Madeline.

24. No Thank You

My mother and I are book collectors, and avid readers, so when I was growing up, we converted the outside cottage my dad had built for his mother into a library, as she had moved on. We had more than 2,000 books, all neatly arranged on the bookshelves alphabetically by author name. One hardcover book in our collection was an encyclopedia that described in detail various haunted places in the world.

The author had taken his own pictures and compared them to historical "paranormal" photos. This book was the bane of my childhood. It never stayed alphabetical, it would always move to the bookshelf facing the front door. At the time, I just ascribed it to family pranks—my sister had used my love of books to terrify me in the past, namely with Cujo.

The pictures had a floating dot of light, that would not be in the same picture, I would have to read through the book to find it each time. Either I misremembered its location constantly, or I imagined it completely. After three months of not knowing, it ate at me until I committed the greatest sin in my eyes, I circled the floating light in the photo and checked it the next day.

The page was blemish free. At this point, I was terrified, so I took the book to school and left it under the floodlights on the cricket field after practice. I found it at home the next day. In its spot. Facing the front door. That Friday, I took it to school again and gave it to a girl I hated. She left the school the next week and moved away, I don't know why.

I have only seen it once after that, it was in an SPCA second-hand book sale 6 years later. I picked it up, my mother's name in the front, no circle in any of the pictures, and the floating light in the second to last picture. I put it down and left the shop.

25. Kids Know More Than They Let on

My mom told me this story the other day and it freaked me out. When my oldest sister was little, like 3 years old, she asked my then-pregnant aunt to pick her up to hold her. My mom said she was like "She can't pick you up, honey, she has a baby in her tummy." And then my little sister was like "That baby is dead!" My mom freaked out, but my aunt and grandma were fine and were telling my mom it was all good, she was just a toddler and didn't know what she was saying.

Well, lo and behold my aunt goes to the doctor the next day for a routine pregnancy checkup, and the baby was dead. Give me the willies just thinking about it.

26. Don’t Lose Your Head

27. This Legit Sounds Like a B-Movie

My grandmother was a cop in Santa Maria in the late 70s till early 90s. A man calls in saying there is a 7-foot gray man at his door. She goes to check it out, the door is jammed. The man is screaming and she hears a loud buzz. She slams the door open and the buzz is gone and so is the man. There's blood everywhere.

She calls for backup and runs around and calls his name. She hears what sounds like someone yelling, but someone is covering their mouth. She finds him tied up, piss everywhere. Investigators say that he was in that room for at least four hours. Man lives alone in the middle of nowhere. Says he called the police five hours ago. They said that a cop was on their way.

He reported seeing a 7-foot tall gray man with big eyes who did that to him. No footprints, no trace of any kind of invasion. My grandmother lost four hours somehow...The guy ended up killing himself a few years later, leaving a note behind. In the note, he warned my grandmother that "they" are after him...and thanked her for rescuing him.

28. Didn’t Have a Pickup Line Ready

Weirdest thing that I've seen: In about 2008 or so, I was driving home through Chickasha, Oklahoma at about midnight. I passed a guy who was walking along the side of the road wearing a short, white toga and a full-face rubber pig mask. He was carrying a long spear over one shoulder. (By long, I mean about ten feet long.) This was right in the middle of town and it was not Halloween. I was sober and am sane. At the time, it was obvious to me that it was a man in a mask, not a pig-headed guy. There has to be a story there. I almost circled the block to ask him. Now, I really wish I had. Mysterious pig man, if you read this, respond and let me know.

29. Ahead of Your Time

When I was nine years old, I woke up in the middle of the night positive that my Aunt Hope had died. The feeling was so real that it scared the daylights out of me and I ran to my parents’ room crying. I told them what had happened, and they kept saying "it’s just a bad dream, everything's okay, Aunt Hope is fine." But for some reason, I just couldn't calm down.

About 15 minutes later, the phone rang. My dad got up and went to answer it. It was my uncle calling to tell us Hope had just died.

30. To Thine Own Selves Be True

This happened twice, once in 1978 and again in 2015.

In 1978 my parents and my siblings were near Yosemite and while we were preparing for sunset, there was another family identical to mine. Same appearance, style, mom, dad, 2 daughters, and 2 sons. I couldn't tell the age but they were roughly the same. However, the weird part was their sense of style, hair and everything was identical to us. What freaked me was that the entire family had this really weird staring into the abyss looks. In comparison to us we were a bunch of goofy looking people lol.

My parents went over to meet them because we needed something my mom forgot to pack, so they began talking briefly and departed. Later on the car ride home, I asked my family if anyone noticed how similar we all were. Everyone laughed at me so that was the end of that.

In 2015 during my father's funeral, I kid you not, I saw the same exact family except it was only the mom, and the children just walking. (They did not age, and I am 100% sure it was the same people). However, they were just walking dressed in black and were not part of our funeral (We live in Washington but the funeral happened in Montana).

But yeah, after that incident, I came home and saw this thread and thought it was perfect, because it didn't have a serious tag on it.

31. Past Life Horrors

This one actually just happened with my four-year-old a week or so ago. I woke up to her laying in the hallway whimpering and crying while still asleep. I woke her up to put her back to bed and asked if she had a bad dream. Barely awake she said "No. I remembered. Before I was born here I was a really bad dog and they made me go to sleep." and then started crying and saying she didn't want to remember it.

When I asked the next morning she said the same thing and got visibly upset again. I even have audio of her starting to tell me the story, getting upset, then changing the topic.

32. Thrown-Out Baby Shoes, Never Worn

My dad was renovating the kitchen in his house before they moved out. We were putting new cabinets in, when we took out the old cabinets (60-ish years old) behind the cabinet (inside the wall) we found...A pair of white old-timey children's shoes.

What did we do? We threw them right in the trash... I guess this pissed off the baby ghost or spirit or whatever it was cause ever since then we would hear knocks and children running throughout the house at odd hours of the night. And occasionally my baby sisters crib would be moved from my dad's room out into the hallway. We moved out a couple years ago and haven't been back.

My 3-year-old daughter was going through the monsters under her bed phase. It lasted for weeks, and it was really wearing on her mom and me. One night after mom tried to put her to bed, she tagged me in. After 30 minutes, I grew pretty frustrated. In a last ditch attempt, I promised my daughter that there weren't any monsters under her bed.

She replied, "I know. Now, they're behind you." After that, I let her sleep with us for a week.

34. Where Did My Time Go?

Ten years ago I was returning home from a road trip with two friends. I received a phone call from my parents asking when we would be arriving, and I explained that we were about 25 minutes away. About a minute later we came around a bend; it was a full moon and we could see the reflection from a lake below us and other than that the road was completely empty.

Suddenly everything went completely dark in the car, no lights from the dash or gauges or headlights on the road. The music also stopped and re-started at the beginning of the CD we were listening to. There was now a vehicle pulled over by the police about 1/4 mile in front of us that hadn't been there a split second before.

I assumed I had dozed off for just a second as it was late. I thought it was still quite peculiar, though. After about a minute, the driver of the car turned the music all the way down and said: "did that just happen to anyone else?" The other passenger in the back seat sat forward abruptly and exclaimed: "I thought I just fell asleep..."

We then realized that the clock in the car was reading an hour later than it just had a minute before. To keep ourselves from freaking out we decided that the car had possibly had a momentary electrical failure and reset the clock to an odd time, turned off the dash lights, headlights, and gauges, and restarted the CD player.

But when we arrived home 25 minutes later, we were one hour late. I am missing an hour of my life, and to this day have no idea how it happened.

36. Don’t Lose Your Head

I think I was 8 years old, my mother and sister were fishing off a dock. I was a couple hundred yards south, next to the water, leaning against a tree, when I opened a fish bait bottle and it spilled. As I’m picking up the bait, right next to me in the water, a man's head just rises out of the water, green and pale. It looked at me and slowly sank back into the water. I began crying and never saw the head come back up—IT WAS NOT WEARING ANY KIND OF REBREATHER—and my sister ran over to me and asked me what happened.

I'm 14 now, and every time I try to describe or explain the story, they never believe me and say I was dreaming. I can still remember that face, but I wasn't scared the first time I saw it, I was purely shocked. But that face was terrifying, like ‘90s Pennywise terrifying. These days I try and play it off as something paranormal or spiritual, but if that was some sort of living creature, then this world is a scary place.

37. Secret Admirer

I have very vivid memories of seeing a black, shadowy figure moving around in an apartment I lived in when I was little. I always screamed for my mom and she tried telling me that it was just a shadow of someone in the apartment, but it wasn't. I watched it, from my bedroom, walk across the wall from the living room to my parents room. It even stopped and turned to look at me once.

38. Drive Safe

About 12 years ago I was driving a friend home to her house in the middle of the woods and took a turn kind of fast and almost lost control, at the same time we both saw a bright flash come off the ground, definitely not lightning, couldn't explain it.

Another 2 friends from the area have seen a green orb which shot off as if it was afraid it had been noticed. They both never spoke of it until a few years later for the fear of sounding crazy.

I was 17 and struggling with depression, so I went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and was going to attempt suicide. As I was contemplating, there was a power surge (which rarely happened at my house). The microwave and stove clocks were blinking, so I definitely didn't imagine it. I texted my mom who was in her bedroom and I asked if there was a power surge and she said that she had been watching TV and the power never went out in her room.

So I put the knife down and watched TV instead.

40. The Man Who Wasn’t There

My grandfather was in the Navy, in WWII in the Pacific. He occasionally, when in a particular mood (whiskey), would tell a story of how they were getting attacked, and he was trying to get to the other side of the boat. He reaches a doorway to the deck, opens it, and just as he is about to step out, he hears someone shout his name behind him. He stops, begins to turn around, and an explosion goes off just outside the door. He looks behind him to thank whoever called his name, but no one was there. That shook him up more than the bombs.

42. "Spooky" Is Only Appropriate Word Here

I didn't believe in ghosts until I spent the night at my aunt’s. So it was nighttime, and I was staying in the youngest cousin’s room since he had been sleeping in his sister's room for the past couple weeks, no real explanation, just that "He doesn't want to be alone at night."

I challenged my aunt on this, since usually at his age (9), boys typically want to sleep alone, to prove they're big boys now. She said, "He's nine, she's ten, it's still fine."

So, there I am, lying in an uncomfortable bed, trying to sleep, when I look towards the bedroom door, where the room nightlight softly glows behind a dark figure.

I react like any rational adult seeing a stranger in a child relative's room. I holler at the figure, and try to dramatically leap at the figure, only to flop to the ground from my legs being tangled in the bed sheets. When I look back up, the figure is gone, the bedroom door is open, but I don't hear any doors slamming, so the person must still be in the house.

I run to the master bedroom door and start pounding on it, calling for my aunt to wake up, because there was someone in the house. She blearily opens the door, asks me what's going on. So I tell her what happened. She gives me an exasperated look, takes me into the kitchen and pours me some liquor in a too large glass.

"Listen, no one was in the room."

"What?"

"I know what you saw, because I've seen it too. But there was no one there."

"Then what did I see, a hallucination?"

"I don't know, but we're just hoping it'll go away."

43. Singing Spirits

I was with my sister, her husband, and their 2-year-old daughter. We were talking about loved ones that had recently passed—my father had died sometime recently. My brother-in-law went and grabbed a picture of his mother, who had died in a car crash when he was six, to show me. When my niece saw the picture though she started laughing.

We asked her what was so funny and she looked at us and said: "that's my special friend who sings to me." I still shiver a bit just thinking about it.

My kid's Catholic school is over 100 years old. There is a basement under the gym that's used for storage. I was subbing once and, during recess, one of the kickballs rolled down the stairs. A little girl was standing at the top of the stairs yelling "Just throw it up to me." I went over and asked who she was talking to and she replied "That big man at the bottom of the stairs!"

I went down and there was nobody there. There was no other way in and hardly anyone ever even went down there. I asked some of the other kids if they have seen the man before and they said: "Yes, but Sister told us not to talk to him." I asked them to describe this "sister" and they described a nun. There haven't been nuns at the school in 40 years...

46. Two Places At Once

My brother Chris and I have a much younger brother named James, who was five at the time this story happened. We had just moved into an older house and were deciding who would get which bedroom.

James's new room was directly above the living room with the staircase. James went up to discover his new room, and Chris and I took a short walk around the neighborhood.

When we get back, my mom says she's going to get pizza for dinner, and leaves. She took a fairly long time, which is normal for her. I think she really enjoys the small breaks she gets when she can leave the house without James, and I never object to babysitting. Besides, James is plenty occupied with his new room.

Chris and I are just talking in the living room. James is super excited about his new bedroom. We hear him running and stomping around upstairs, opening and closing doors. Sometimes he slams the doors pretty hard, but whatever—he's a kid. I assumed he fell asleep since the noise stopped eventually.

I hear my mom's car pull up. I get up to meet her in the kitchen.

My mom comes in, carrying soda. James follows directly behind her, carrying the food, yelling "PIZZA TIME!"

She had taken him with her to get dinner. Chris and I just looked at each other, taking too long to comprehend what was happening.

I lived in that house for four years, and that was the only time something really freaked me out about it.

47. Haunted House

I had a lot of weird things happen at my parent’s house growing up, but I still consider myself skeptical of anything paranormal. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet where the light would constantly come on by itself, especially when I was home alone. The dogs were also weirdly obsessed with the closet. One would sit in there for hours, and the other would always stand and growl and bark.

Even years after I moved out, my mom still has this happen on the regular. The freakiest time was when I was 15 and my parents were out for the evening at a work party. I was in my room playing a computer game and listening to music. Suddenly I got a really uncomfortable feeling like someone was behind me. I turned around, and there was a black shadowy figure in the middle of the room.

As soon as I saw it, it moved towards me and I could literally feel it move through me. I noped the f*** out of the house and sat outside until my parents came home. The most recent time was after I moved out and was at my parents to do some laundry. As I was loading the dryer, I clearly saw somebody walk by the laundry room door and into the furnace room.

I assumed it was my dad, but it turned out they were both upstairs at the time. My mom is also a complete skeptic, but she almost wanted to come stay with me one time because she swears she saw a dark figure crawl across the kitchen floor. She also says she’s seen the chandelier swinging one time during the night. I’ve never had anything weird happen to me anywhere else but that house, so it’s kind of freaky. I’m really not sure what to think.

49. I Would Have Immediately Moved to a Hotel

Stayed with a friend for a couple of months post-divorce. He had an old farmhouse and I bunked in the top floor room. One night as I had just gone to bed I heard creaking on the floor just in front of my bed. After a couple seconds, I rolled over and just ignored it. After a few minutes, I hear it again. I roll over and sit up. I see what looks like a blur—mist perhaps, who knows—pass by the end of the bed.

At this point, I'm more confused than anything. Suddenly, I hear what sounds like light footsteps on the stairs—about 7 in total. A small creak, possibly the door opening to the downstairs and then the dogs go ballistic. I run downstairs and now we are all awake. The dogs are focused on the stairway and bark like mad for about 3 minutes.

No real explanation, but after telling my buddy and his wife what I heard we were all creeped out for a few days. I stayed there for a few weeks and nothing else ever happened.

50. Hospitals Are So Haunted

On my first nursing job, I would work in a unit that served as an overflow, and that unit would close if the census was low (less patients in the hospital). The hospital was only a few years old, but there were strange things happening like the TV turning on its own in a room where one patient died and patient’s doors closing.

I always joked that sun-downing in a hospital might as well be someone being possessed. Two of our coworkers had the bright idea of going upstairs to that unit, turning on phone video, and asking aloud for the spirits to show themselves. I didn't join them since I was busy. But to their disappointment, nothing came of it and even the possessed TV did not turn on.

But later, when they reviewed the video, they turned up the volume on their phone. They started to hear audible whispers and that freaked them out. Not my story, but from a veteran coworker. She got consent from the family for a patient for a surgery who was paranoid "I'm going to die...I'm going to die...I know I am; you bring me there, I die."

The patient didn't have any significant medical problems, no red flags with anesthesia history, and the surgery was a simple ex-laprascopic gallbladder removal. The dude died on the table.

I stayed home from school one day because I was sick. I went in the kitchen to make a sandwich and I heard a sound coming from the living room. Go to see what it was, and it's a little toy car rolling from the "fancy living room" to the room I was previously sitting in, then it rolled around the coffee table, and crashed into the spot I was sitting at.

Also, my brother had passed away three months prior to this and after it happened I told my mom. She said the same thing happened to her too. So I'm sure it was related to him dying. Still very bizarre.

52. Without a Trace

A while back I was in NYC with some friends and we noticed this weird story on a newspaper (maybe the Times?) about a girl who had fallen from on high in Union Square, possibly off a building. The girl got up, apparently unharmed, and ran off into the crowd of onlookers. The police looked into this, but didn't have much luck until an anonymous envelope containing the picture of this girl was delivered to them. The picture was included in the newspaper story. We thought this was pretty interesting, so the minute we got home we googled the story and...got nothing. We've never seen any articles on this girl, anywhere. Everybody we've asked about the story, including people who live or work around Union Square, claims that they've never heard anything about it. This was about three or four years ago and we've found NOTHING.

I live in TX so I still haven't been able to make it to NYC Public Library to look through old newspapers. Will when I finally make it back.

55. Meet Me in the Meadow

I was about four. One night my mom woke up to the sound of our front door opening and closing. She grabs a knife and goes out to investigate. She sees me walking barefoot out toward the logging road. She runs outside and grabs me and asks me what I think I’m doing. I told her, “I have to go visit my friends.” My mom asked, “What?! What friends?”

And I said, “my new friend, they told me to meet them in the meadow.” I ended up explaining to my mom that my new friends can talk to me without being near me, that they don’t wear clothes, and they want to take me on a trip. Since this happened I have learned that there have been several cases of mutilated cattle over the years, and if you ask the right questions to the right people...loads of stories of lights in the sky and strange figures, and what have you.

My grandpa refused to ever talk about “the night.” All I know is the cattle were mutilated. My grandma cried if you brought it up, and my grandpa would not let anyone talk about it in his presence. Since then, I have seen some pretty strange stuff out at the farm, and I do remember needing to meet my friends in the meadow.

Just me and my daughter alone in the house one night. She pointed at the top corner of a room and asked "what is that man's name?" She got very upset at me when I told her there is no one there after she repeatedly asked me that question. Needless to say, all the lights stayed on that night...

My husband's theory after I told him the story is that from where my daughter was standing, the vents and the window kind of looks like a face if you kind of squint at it and look at it from the corner of your eye.

Another time, before my daughter could speak. She was looking over my shoulder at the doorway. And then she got really excited and was waving at someone. I thought it was my husband coming home from work. Turned around, no one was there.

Dad: Drops book he's reading and stares, wide-eyed, and then says Yes...
Sister: What color were her eyes?
Dad: Blue... why?
Sister: Oh, she doesn't have them anymore, just empty sockets. I was curious.

59. Knockin’ On Heaven’s Window

During my freshman year of college I lived on the fourth floor of my dorms. It was winter time and there was snow on the ground. It was probably around three or four in the morning. My roommate and I had both randomly woken up but we weren’t talking, as we each thought the other was asleep. Then we suddenly both heard very clear, loud knocking on our window. We both said “did you hear that?” and were kind of spooked.

15 minutes went by and nothing happened. I was starting to fall back asleep when there it was again—four loud knocks. At this point I was shaking because, in my mind, someone had somehow climbed up to our window and was trying to scare us. So I got up and pulled the blinds back to look for someone. No one was there. No footprints in the snow either—nothing. So I got back in bed.

Another five minutes or so went by and we heard the knocking again. This time, it was coming from what sounded like the neighbor’s window. Sure enough, we heard our neighbors say “dude, what the hell” and shuffle around a little. Two minutes later, it sounded like every single window on our floor was being knocked on for about seven seconds straight. Just absolutely insane.

People started screaming and we could hear people opening their doors and running across the halls into their friends’ rooms because they were terrified. It kept happening for probably two more hours, but only at specific intervals every 15-30 minutes. Every time I was about to fall asleep it happened again. It was a very long night. No one ever found out what it really was, as far as I know.

One morning I took him downstairs and plopped him in front of the TV so I could try to go back to sleep for about 30 minutes on the couch (right by him). I woke up a few minutes later and he was standing in the foyer, pointing into the kitchen, laughing. He then said, "Mommy is floating in the kitchen."

I didn't think much of it...went back to sleep for a bit. About 30 minutes later his mom came downstairs having just woken up, saying she "had one of those weird dreams where she flew out of her body, went downstairs and found herself in the kitchen." Freekay.

63. Grim Precognition

My great uncle used to have dreams that made him certain that he was going to die before his junior year of high school—but that wasn't the most disturbing part. For some reason, he was sure it would be a family member who killed him. Then, the summer before his junior year, he and his older brothers were out for a summer drive, in a convertible, in the 50s, with no seatbelts in the back of the car. His older brother took a turn too hard and too fast and rolled the car.

They all lived—except the youngest brother. Then, when they were going through his notebooks after his funeral, they found drawings of the church where the funeral had been held. This church was several towns over, and he had never been there, so there was no way he could have drawn a picture of it. He not only knew he would die and that a family member would kill him, he even knew the Church where his funeral would be held.

64. There’s Something in the Lake

When I was a teenager, I was alone on a rowboat in the middle of a small lake, about a mile or two long, by no more than 200 yards at its widest. I was mostly just enjoying the day, but I dropped a lure into the water expecting nothing, almost as an afterthought. Something big grabbed it though, and pulled hard enough for the entire boat to be pulled about 10 feet and turned 180 degrees—force transferred to the boat via my fishing rod and my death grip on it. The line snapped, and that was the end of it.

Prior to this, my friend who lived on the lake had told a few other friends and me that one morning, waiting for the school bus, he saw a huge living thing in the lake. He described it as being the size of a car and brown, to the best of my recollection. He refused to swim in the lake from then on. He wore mild prescription glasses and of course, due to this, we teased him mercilessly about seeing the “lake monster.” But whatever took my lure that day was big. I like to think it was just a huge carp, but I don’t know.

I was eight months pregnant with my second child. I had to take my mom to a doctor’s appointment, she was getting a procedure and could not drive home after. I had my not quite two-year-old with me. He was in the backseat behind my mom in his car seat. I was driving a Jeep Wrangler. I pulled up to the intersection to make a left turn.

I was in the crosswalk and the light turned red. I heard a loud man's voice tell me to "BACK UP NOW!" I put the car in reverse and backed out of the crosswalk. I did not have time to look up or put the car back in drive when I heard a loud crash. Two cars collided in front of me and a SUV was where my car just was.

On my hood was the headlight cover for the SUV. As the police, fire dept. and EMS showed up they wanted to treat me since I was really pregnant and I had to keep telling them we were not involved in the accident. One EMS guy picked up the plastic on my hood and said "How?" I told him what I heard. He said, "I guess you have an angel."

She asked a few more questions and it became clearly obvious we didn't know each other at all.

She had dialed a wrong number looking for her niece and happened to reach a person with the same name, with a son named Sean, a sister named Sasha that was in school and a mother who recently had surgery. I can't imagine the chances of that happening by accident. Still sends a chill down my spine.

68. Creeped-Out Critter

August 1998, I'm in the passenger seat of my uncle's truck as we are driving up the windy gravel road to his friend's cabin, which is in a very, very remote, forested part of Washington state. As we reach the top of the hill, I am about to get out of the truck when he says "Hey, don't move, but...look" in kind of a sharp whisper, pointing to the patch of trees surrounding the parking area. I'm looking but not seeing anything, when this... thing. This thing moves out across the edge of the gravel lot onto another group of trees. I saw its face.

I kid you not, it's a freaking upright walking ape!! It must have been a young one because it was only about 5 1/2 feet tall, but it freezes, looks in our direction, kind of moves its head around in a circular motion like an owl, then stops and crouches down. I'll never forget the expression on its face, the poor thing looked almost comically TERRIFIED. Like, it had a visible frown.

My uncle tells me to slowly open the door so we can try to approach it, but as soon as he opens his door, the thing kind of grabs a small handful of gravel and sticks and chucks it in our direction, then books it through the treeline. My heart was racing and it took a long time to calm down after that. I will never, ever forget that day.

72. Good Luck Trying to Figure This One Out, Folks...

When I was young, I was at the cottage with family. All day Saturday, something was off, and it culminated in a bizarre standoff. The next day, everyone said it was just a dream. But I’ve got proof it wasn’t.

Here's what happened: For as long as I can remember, there's been an abandoned lot near my parents cabin. One day, I woke up, expecting to have pancakes with my grandparents, but everything felt...off. So I go downstairs, notice no one is in the kitchen, walk outside, and see all my family adults in a kind of semicircle facing an older man and a woman I didn’t recognize.

I assume this is some adult situation so I go back inside to hang with my cousins until the adults come back in. My aunt was pale as a sheet I went to ask what’s wrong. She took me outside and pointed at the aforementioned abandoned lot. In its place was a sprawling cabin-mansion.

My aunt says the people outside were the owners, who had come to say hi. She looked freaked out as she asked me if I had seen that massive cabin-mansion last night, last year, the year before? Had I ever seen any construction? No. I hadn't. Then my grandpa sat me down and told me not to go over there. He said the couple didn’t act right.

I assumed that meant they were rude, and that we should just keep to ourselves this weekend. I agreed and we went about our day, all adults keeping us occupied with activities either inside or behind the cabin. We get ready for bed when I see my great granddad (WWII vet) loading 3 shotguns, handing one off to my grampie and the other to my uncle.

I wake up the next day to the smell of pancakes and the sound of adults chatting downstairs. I’m sad because today is when we have to pack and leave, but things seem back to normal so I’m very glad. I run downstairs, dig into my breakfast, and ask my aunt what time we have to leave.

“Leave? We don’t leave until tomorrow.” Wait, what day is it? “It’s Saturday, we just got here last night.” I notice just a bit of doubt in my aunt’s eyes that I know something is up, and I run outside. The abandoned lot is back to its decrepit state.

At the time, I just believed them when they said we’d just gotten there the night before. It wasn’t until I got back to school and was called to the main office that I realized I hadn’t just dreamed an entire day up. They asked why I wasn’t at school on Monday. I told them that today was Monday. Nope, it’s Tuesday.

My absence was unexplained despite several calls to my parents, neither of whom were at the cabin with the rest of the family. So either my family played the trick of all tricks on me, or I’m living in an alternate universe. Like I said, no one will even remotely entertain a conversation about this incident. Will anyone in my family ever admit what really happened?

Eventually, I convinced myself it was my imagination.

Across the street lived my best friend, whose mom’s window faced my house. She told me years later that she had at one point refused to sleep in her room because every night, a man would park in her side yard and walk over to my yard. The long shadows were from the light in her yard. She eventually figured it was my dad just checking on us and never mentioned anything. It wasn’t my dad though, I asked him. Every single fixture in the interior and exterior was turned on. She also noticed a very strong smell of cigar smoke in my room occasionally, but never saw anyone outside smoking one.

It was strong enough that they repainted in case it was coming from the walls, but that didn’t help. One day, while talking to someone at her church, she learned that a previous owner—who smoked cigars—had died in the house.

78. Friendly Ghost

My brother and I were home alone one night watching TV. My mother was working a night shift and my father was out. When he came home, he pushed the door ajar and poked his head through to say hello. We both turned around and said hello back, then he closed the door. 30 seconds after that, another man opened the door to say hello.

He was pale and had bright white hair; we assumed a friend of my father had come back to the house too. We both turned around again and said hello back, and the man closed the door. About five minutes later, I headed into the kitchen where my father was making dinner. I was expecting to see his friend again, but I saw that he was alone making dinner and assumed his friend was upstairs in the bathroom.

I asked my father who his friend was. “What friend?” I mentioned the man we had seen. He looked at me like I was crazy. He said, “I came back home on my own.”

79. I Don’t Feel Great After Hearing This!

When I was a kid, I had a talking Ernie toy that wasn't functioning properly. You had to absolutely bang it on a table for it to say "I feel great!"
When I was eight, I overheard my parents saying that my Ernie toy seemed to speak every time they talked about my grandma. I got irrationally scared, which made my parents hide Ernie in a huge tucked aside toybox.

Fast forward a bit and one day I’m playing hide and seek with a friend in the room where the toybox is. While we were hiding, I mentioned to my friend that I thought my toy might be haunted because it speaks every time my grandma is mentioned—when all of a sudden, we heard Ernie say "I feel great!" from inside the box. There's no way that box was moved. And even if it was somehow moved by gravity, you needed to bang that thing on the table to make it talk. We screamed and ran outside.

80. Answering the Call

It was the summer after my next door neighbor/Uncle had died—to make a long story short he was shot and killed.) I was in the basement of my house playing some video games when I heard somebody that sounded like my uncle yelling my name. I yelled back "Be right there!", turned off the good ol' PS2, turned the TV off, and then ran upstairs to see what was going on.

Turns out I was home alone with the doors locked and curtains closed. Needless to say, I nope'd the heck outta there and went for a walk.

81. Emotional Drawing

Probably not the most bizarre, but about three weeks ago, I was sitting on the train going home from work with my headphones on. A woman got on and sat directly across from me. After 10 minutes or so, she takes a little sketch pad and starts doing little drawings of the other passengers, and I'm watching because I've always found it relaxing to watch someone draw. She started drawing me.

At this point, Videotape by Radiohead started playing in my headphones. I'm watching this woman drawing me and I swear to God, I couldn't move, like I was in a trance or hypnotized or something. I physically couldn't move.

After 30 seconds or so, I started to tear up. I wasn't emotional, I wasn't feeling any kind of way, but my eyes started to well up. And then as quick as it all started, I just snapped out of it. I could move, I stopped 'crying' and it was like waking up. I have no idea what the heck happened.

82. Flying Flatware

Two years ago, my town was hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Civil War murder mystery. I had volunteered to help as an actor for the event, and to wash dishes. After the event, I was in the kitchen with the cook, who was a family friend. I turned and asked her how her day had gone, but before I could even finish the question, plates suddenly went flying off the shelves across the room as if someone had thrown them and landed on the floor with an enormous crash.

I won’t lie and say it didn’t startle me because quite frankly it did; I’ve had other paranormal experiences, but this is one that I can’t figure out.

83. Need a Hand?

I had just reported aboard my first ship. We were in port in Brooklyn, NY, and I was over the side, on a camel, a long wooden raft that kept the ship away from the pier, scrubbing the side of the bow with a push broom. This was in December, on the East River. The river was moving swiftly and was rough. It was a cold, dreary, awful day.

Anyway, I'm scrubbing away and looking around when I see an arm raise up from the river. Just as I start to call out about it and point, it sinks out of sight. Everyone thinks I'm nuts now and starts to rag on me. I can still see this in my mind, though it's been almost 40 years.

84. Lurking in the Shadows

I worked in the kitchen of a frat house that was built in the 1800s. On a couple of occasions, I had caught what appeared to be glimpses of a woman in the back corner of the stock room, but I just brushed it off. When the semester was almost over, I discovered that all five other employees had thought they’d seen her too.

85. Time Flies

My wife and I had a 2-hour drive back home from St. Louis. Shortly after leaving, we both look at the clock and realize that we are already an hour and a half into the trip and are almost home. Neither of us has any recollection of the past two hours whatsoever. We had only used enough gas to have gone a half hour and our GPS showed that we had been driving our normal route.

We still have absolutely no idea what happened and it still freaks me out to think about.

86. Thanks, Doctor!

When I was around 15, I woke up one night with terrible pain from cramps. While tossing and turning and crying in bed, I suddenly saw a figure of a man out in the hallway. He was dressed in black with a fedora hat and a doctor’s bag, outlined in the doorway of the bathroom. I blinked a few times—and he was suddenly standing over me with his hand raised, palm flat…and all of a sudden, the pain was gone!!!

87. Last Call

We were visiting my grandmother when she got a phone call from my uncle. She got off the phone looking a little shocked and said that he was acting out of character. He had called simply to thank her and say that he loved her. My uncle rarely expressed his emotions, so she thought it was strange. Not even 30 minutes later, two policemen came to the door to say that my uncle had passed away in a motorcycle accident that had happened close to two hours previously.

My grandmother said that it was impossible since she had just spoken to him on the phone, but it was true.

88. Crisis Averted

I fell off of my bike on the way home one night. I was just cycling my way home when suddenly my mind drifted off, and I saw myself and my mum (who was with me) as if I were looking down from above. For a second, it was like I could see things from a whole other perspective—and then I lost focus and started losing control of the bike. I fell—but when I was three inches above the ground, I stopped.

It was like I hovered above the pavement for a spilt second, and then gently lowered until I was just lying there in the grass. It was a weird night.

89. Across Time Zones

I was at work one night, worrying about my mom, who had pancreatic cancer. I’d seen her the week before and was flying back up the following day. As I clocked out for the day, I felt like I should make a mental note of the time for some reason. It was 11:07 pm. All of a sudden, I had a feeling that my mom had passed. I told myself I was being foolish, ignored it, went home, and went to bed.

5 am rolled around, and my stepdad called and told me that my Mom had indeed passed away the prior evening...at 10:07 their time. I was one hour ahead due to living in Denver.

90. Don’t Call Me By My Name

I was in the living room with my grandma. We were the only ones home. She was working on a crossword puzzle, and I was messing around on my iPad. Television was off, windows were closed. All of a sudden clear as day I hear my name being whispered, but since it was so quiet it sounded loud. I looked up to my grandma, thinking it was her asking her if she said something.

She said, “No, but I heard your name.”

91. Trying to Make Contact

After my dad passed away, my stepmom kept asking me if I found the book he was reading in his last month(s). She didn't know the title. We looked all over the house for it. Eventually found it with a stack of magazines, where it definitely didn’t belong. My stepmom recognized it immediately when found. The title of the book was Hello from Heaven.

I also received a phone call two days after he passed away. The phone call was from his phone number. For some reason, I was too scared to answer. Asked the only person who had the phone (my stepmom) if she had called from it. She said she left it in the garage where he always worked. This was 14 years ago. I still regret not answering the phone.

What Is My Life FactsShutterstock

92. Demons in the Basement

My extremely Catholic grandmother owned a house in rural New York. We'd often go there when we went to camp or for family holidays. The place always had a weird vibe to it, as it was over 150 years old. I had several paranormal experiences like seeing what I believed to be a spirit of a man in a brown coat and top hat in the kitchen.

I would also hear children's voices in the bunkbed room when nobody was home, as well as light fixtures acting strangely, like bulbs going out on holiday lights one by one in sequence instead of all at once. Anyways, these experiences were never particularly emotion-inducing or threatening, just weird things I was convinced I saw...

...until one day when I was about ten. I was there alone while my grandmother went shopping and was just watching Avatar the Last Airbender and playing with Legos, pretty standard. I went to the bathroom at one point and noticed the door to the basement. I never thought anything of the basement because it was always closed and off-limits, but being unsupervised and the bold kid I was, I opened the door to get a peek.

It was pitch black down the stairs, but within about three seconds I felt an intense chill and an absolutely terrifying feeling of pure evil wash over me, like a primal fear. Every instinct in my being and soul went into full panic mode as I felt the presence rapidly approaching up the stairs. I shut that door and locked it as fast as I could and ran to the common room and grabbed a cross, convinced it was some sort of demon.

Upon telling my grandmother this, her face went white, as if she wasn't as shocked as afraid, and as if she knew something about it. She called a priest into the house and had him bless the place. When he opened the door to the basement he stopped abruptly and slowly descended. He performed his blessing down there and confided in us that he had felt the same feeling of dread, but that the house was protected by the lord now and we had nothing to fear.

I was always wary after that, but never experienced it again, and certainly never went near the basement. As I grew up, it weighed less on me, and I thought that maybe I was just a kid who spooked himself, maybe I had a grandmother who was so religious that she thought a non-existent demon was present, and maybe the priest felt what we were telling him we had felt, and it wasn't real.

Unfortunately for that theory, and the reason I share this, is because I learned a few years ago that the family that had moved into the house after my grandparents moved to Florida had abruptly moved out. They had forfeited their down payment and left immediately because, and I quote from the realtor's report, “The demons in the basement were terrorizing their children to an unbearable degree.”

So I don't know what was down there, but it wasn't human, it wasn't benevolent, and it wasn't make believe.

93. Little Help?

I once heard a lady’s voice coming from my closet. The door was slightly opened, and I heard the voice say, “Help Me. I see you through the crack.” I was scared spitless, but I also was curious, and wanted to help so, I opened the door and no one was there. I’ll never forget this, it still gives me goosebumps talking about it.

94. Apparitions as Warnings

My family has a long history with mental illness. Therefore whenever we get calls from family members, we assume the worst. It happened multiple times. First, my cousin was pregnant and she was super excited for the birth of her baby. It was around the five-month mark that my mother and I started to hallucinate and see dark figures in the shape of a baby around my house.

Since it happened to both my mom and I we both got scared but did nothing about it. About a week later, my cousin had a miscarriage and we stopped seeing these “apparitions.” Secondly, my grandma was very sick and my mother and I started hallucinating again. This time, instead of babies crawling around corners we saw a slumped figure.

Not even a week passed and my grandma was declared dead after they told us she was recuperating. Finally, and probably why my mom and I are not scared of these apparitions. My sister has been diagnosed with depression for a long time. Since she is older, she lived in another country. My mom and I were in the kitchen and the hallway lights were off, then we simultaneously freaked out.

We both saw a figure that immediately reminded us of my sister. My mom took this as a warning and called my sister immediately. Her roommate answered and my mom asked her to check on her. Turns out my sister had tried to overdose on sleeping pills and her roommate found her just in time to save her life. Ever since then, I believe that whatever this apparition is, it is probably someone or something that is trying to warn us beforehand.

95. House Hunters: Haunted House Edition

When I was younger (about sixth grade), my mother and I moved to a new city and we started to check out new houses. After a long day of going from house to house, we found one that my mom and I instantly fell in love with. It was time to go into one of the last rooms, and I remember walking into this small pale blue room. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I got this weird feeling throughout my body and had to run outside and throw up. My mom and the realtor followed and that’s when she asked how we knew what happened. My mom, confused, said: “...knew what?” The realtor told my mom that someone had just recently died in that room. I still have dreams about that room.

97. Pinch Me, Please

My mom and I were deep in the country visiting family. While driving on a back road there was a stalled car, and we stopped to see if they needed help. I remember vividly the two people inside the car were looking away from us towards the mountain. We asked if they were okay and both individuals turned towards us and had eyeballs the size of fists, they looked like something straight out of a nightmare.

Huge eye sockets and eyeballs staring straight into my soul. My mom hit the gas and we took off; I don't think we went under 60 until we were almost home. Then when asked my mom about this recently thinking it was a bad dream, her response chilled me to the bone. She started to cry saying she remembered it all.

I'll never forget those giant eyeballed monsters.

98. You Didn’t See Nothing

I worked as a deckhand on fishing boats out of San Diego. A few times we came across these small deserted boats drifting, and every time the Captain would just get away from them as quickly as possible. I was suspicious, and one day I got my binoculars and took a closer look at the boats—and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

One had two people on it—both had clearly been shot a bunch of times, and one was moving and fairly alive. I told the Captain, but all I got was a disapproving head shake and then we went on our way.

My son had trouble sleeping, so I stayed up with him. He couldn’t read, but he was looking at a book. Suddenly, he starts reading it aloud. I asked him how he was doing it, and his answer made my blood run cold. He simply looked at me and said “my friend John is telling me.” Most parents are excited when their kids learn to read, but at that moment I just wanted to get the heck out of that house.

100. Speaking To Yourself

I showed up at work one night and my boss was shocked to see me—he said I’d just called in sick. Little did I know, that was just the start of a terrifying nightmare I still can’t explain. When I called home, I expected my wife to pick up, but instead, the voice on the other end...was my own.

I said in almost a scream, "Where is Ann?" He said, "Ann's in bed. Who is this?" I dropped the phone and told my boss I had to get home, and took off towards the door. I could hear him pick up the phone behind me and say "Hello?" and then start to scream. I peeled into the driveway and ran up to my front door, but I never could’ve prepared for what I saw.

My wife was sitting watching TV and was shocked at me being home. I asked her who was there and she said no one has been here. After a rather long talk with my wife, I went to call the prison to tell them what was going on, but the phone was dead. I went back to work and when I came in Dave was acting weird and asked me "How on earth are you doing this?"

He told me that when I left, he picked up the phone and the person on the other end sounded like me. He kinda freaked out and hung up the phone. A minute later as he could see my car leaving the parking lot, I had called back from home and asked what was going on. He said that I was a bit irate and said I was sick and did not feel like playing these games and was telling him to stop prank calling me and hung up.

After convincing him I had no idea what was going on we went back to work. Later, I find out that the phone line for my area had been knocked down the night before by the storm. This is absolutely the strangest thing that has ever happened to me.
